Allan Pinkerton was born into a family whose forefathers were policemen. At an early age Allan had a need and desire for adventure because of being the son of a police sergeant. Allan Pinkerton’s sense adventure led him to an event that soon changed his life. By accident he stumbled upon a counterfeit ring in Chicago (Geringer,). In fact, Pinkerton’s first assignment was to identify the ring leader. After successfully identifying the leader of the counterfeit ring, Pinkerton was offered a position as an investigator with the Chicago police department in 1846, in which he accepted (Columbia Encyclopedia, 2008). Eventually Pinkerton found himself being asked to be the Chicago’s first detective. With the growth of his new family and the financial stress starting, Pinkerton made the decision to open his own investigative agency. The federal courts system is made up of two types of courts; the first type is known as the Article III court. In the article III courts it includes the U.S District Courts, the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court. It also has two special courts the U.S. Court of Claims and the U.S. Court of International Trade. The judges in the federal court are appointed by the President of the United States, with the advice and consent of the Senate. Federal judges remain in office a lifetime. These courts are considered special because unlike other courts, they are not of general jurisdiction that can hear almost any case. The second type of court is also established by congress and those courts are the magistrate court and bankruptcy courts.…
Roles and functions begin within an organizational chart that assigns tasks and authority for achieving goals. There are two basic classifications of police functions which are either operational or administrative (Grant and Terry, 2012). One role in a police department is in administrative services. The units that provide these services are sometimes referred to as support units. Their functions are usually in hiring and training of police officers, record keeping, planning and research as well as internal affairs. These units are co-staffed by sworn officers and civilian employees. Operational units or line personnel are in direct assistance to the community. They patrol on foot for community building and in vehicles to patrol traffic. These are the men and women in uniform that the public identifies as law enforcement officers who are sworn into office. In addition to administrative and operational units, there are special functions or units within a police force. Several examples are S.W.A.T., K9 and covert operations units. Highly skilled and competent police officers are given advanced training to become…
Local law enforcement enforces traffic and criminal laws within their jurisdiction. These men and women of law risk their lives every day; they know the dangers of their job. Depending where in the city they patrol by foot, patrol car, and a motorcycle. Their job may be simple because they also answer to dispatch involving accidents, robberies, or any misdemeanor or felony crimes. As part of their job when they are called in for crime scenes they do conduct investigations that include gathering evidence, making arrests, and speaking with potential witnesses. The police officers do have their chief in command who they vote for which is called the “Chief of Police”, their job is to make sure his or her officers are committing to their job, and are given their specific rules each day by the chief to keep safe on patrol. The local police officers also like to become more involved with the community to make sure that their community feel safe, and are providing accurate service to…
Officers are trained in seeing the areas that the patrol as they are. Since officers no longer walk the 'beat ', they have to rely on community involvement and outside tips. Police brutality is something that is taught to control while being trained. The issues of police brutality are played up by the media more now because it happens rarely. Working together with the community shows the stability not only of the community, but the officers who patrol. Efficiency is the follow-up from phone calls, tips, or suspicious activity. Organization comes from the Chief of Police all the way down the line to the dispatcher.…
The purpose of the major crime-reporting programs is to provide an overview of criminal activity. These programs seek to gain information about the frequency of crimes being committed, the victims impacted by such crimes, and also the type of crime committed. When these programs are used successfully an accurate picture of crime (through statistics) can be presented, therefore allowing such programs to aid lawmakers and other government officials. Such statistics aid in creating crime control programs, planning laws, and also give an idea as to what budget needs set forth for these things. To consider a crime-reporting program successful in the United States, the program would need to present an accurate picture of crimes. Unfortunately, this can be hard to accomplish. Reasons such programs face problems is because not all agencies report crimes the same way, if multiple crimes are committed only the most serious may be listed, some victims do not report crimes, or a crime may be reported as cleared when it has not been solved to name a few examples. For these programs to have real success, departments throughout the United States would need to work together to set standards for how and what is reported.…

Police officers risk their lives every day for the safety of their communities. Justice is what creates our criminal justice system to help combat crime. The definition of justice may have a lot to do with police operations, yet both have their own meanings and ways to come about. Police operations carry on many components such as, enforcing equal justice for all, implementing all laws and regulations and applying them to everyone, and accountability. With modernized policing comes more complex challenges for police operations in the future, the demand for police knowledge and education is higher along with technical police areas in the criminal justice system, which has created more of a challenge for many.…
The role of police in society is to maintain order and enforce justice amongst the community. Their duty is to bring those who are criminally charged with a crime to the courts in the state to be punished properly for their actions. The role of the police is to protect the community at all costs. Millions of things would happen if the role changed or was lessened for them from different needs within the structure of the facilities and squads needs and to the community that it lessened for. These changes are in things such as organizational structure, changes in management, strategic planning, and changes in programs and certain crime analysis systems.…
Juvenile delinquency along with the punishments associated with it seems to be one of the touchier subjects in today’s society. When it comes to juveniles, there are a number of different things that lead them to commit crimes.
