The Witches are The Most Powerful and Catalyst To Macbeths Crimes
In this essay I will be discussing whether I believe the witches are the most powerful and catalyst to Macbeths evil doings. I will explain in three reasons what I believe as well as rebuttals to my opinion. I believe that the witches are the most powerful characters in the play and the catalyst of all of Macbeth’s crimes.
Firstly I believe they are the most powerful because they have knowledge of the future and peoples true nature. I state this because they predicted three prophecies and they came true as well as they knew Macbeths true personality would come out.
Secondly they have supernatural powers. Their supernatural powers were used when Hecate, the head witch, wanted to use her magic to create apparitions that will push him towards destruction
Given that Macbeth returns to the witches later in the play, to find out more information, shows that he even identifies the witches as powerful and intellectual. Macbeth returned to the witches to find out how secure was the reign of Macbeth and his Lady as well as what was the chance of Banquo's family line claiming the throne of Scotland.
We are not able to know that the prophecies are 100% accurate and that if anyone would want to be king and they were not the heir, they would do anything to replace and have the desires of the king. It is all just an illusion. He might not have gone to the witches, as there is no proof that he was there.
We know that they can tell the future because the prophecies came true. They disappeared at will twice in the play. When he visited them a second time, he was warned about Macduff and was assured victory against all women and as long as Birnam Wood didn’t move.
This why I believe my thesis is true and that the witches are the most powerful as well as the catalyst to Macbeths crimes.
