Lady MacBeth and MacBeth are both characters deep in blood throughout the entire story, as MacBeth is at the beginning portrayed as a sort of nervous to kill the King at first, being his first murderous action. This entire act is sort of the stepping stone for MacBeth leading to his bloodthirsty lunacy. Kind of like a virgin serial killer making his first kill in a way. psychotic meltdown stage. Lady MacBeth shows off her meltdown more during the last few acts most memorable being her sleepwalking saying “Out, damned spot! Out I say” (403).
MacBeth shows his regrets about how much blood they’ve spilled more openly than Lady MacBeth who seems to hide all such emotions from her husband.
She hides her fears while trying to reassure MacBeth but another of her Quotes that show off she has sort of a guilty conscience is “Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from my hand” (346). MacBeth really shows that he feels guilt during the banquet that was held the night Banquo died when he saw his ghost sit before him. Although this story is portrayed by many to be a tragic hero type story, out right and plainly, it’s truthfully one of the few times we see Shakespeare portrays the rise and fall of a villain. Why no one really wants to admit to that confuses me, still MacBeth and Lady MacBeth there’s nothing heroic about either of their deeds. Throughout the story their both evil doing deeds to reach the top of the food chain and stay there. Lady MacBeth is kind of like the villain that smacks the other villain around saying “get yourself together man” in a way and MacBeth when he finally reaches that stage where he is truly out right evil is when he does these awesomely horrific deeds such as killing off MacDuff’s family.
MacBeth’s quote for when his wife dies portrays how feeling dead he truly becomes where he gives her a mourning speech and simply brushes the subject off and stops caring.
The quote being “"She should have died hereafter; There would have been a time for such a word. Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow Creeps in this petty pace from day to day, To the last syllable of recorded time; And all our yesterdays have lighted fools The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage And then is heard no more. It is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury Signifying nothing." (Act 5 Scene 5). Immediately after making this speech he is told that it appears the forest has uprooted and is moving itself toward the castle. Thus snapping him out of his remorse stage and him shrugging the death off threating to kill the messenger if he is lying the actual quote being “If thou speak'st false, Upon the next tree shalt thou hang alive, Till famine cling thee: if thy speech be sooth, I care not if thou dost for me as much. I pull in resolution, and begin To doubt the equivocation of the fiend That lies like truth: 'Fear not, till Birnam wood Do come to Dunsinane:' and now a wood Comes toward Dunsinane. Arm, arm, and out! If this which he avouches does appear, There is nor flying hence nor tarrying here. I gin to be aweary of the sun, And wish the estate o' the world were now undone. Ring the
alarum-bell! Blow, wind! come, wrack! At least we'll die with harness on our back.”(Act 5 Scene 5).
Overall these two power mongers MacBeth and Lady MacBeth are portrayed to be very deep in blood very dark people true villains portrayed as tragic heroes. They bring a great story into Shakespeare’s works that shows Shakespeare can write a dark novel quite well. His next biggest semi dark novel being The Tragedy of Hamlet prince of Denmark. The two psychopaths in this story made for a great team with a bloody ending what more could a reader ask for.
