Ambition portrays a desire for change. A person stimulated by ambition can be able to have a high aspiration to carry out certain goals. Although, these aspirations can destroy oneself if a person assures them. William Shakespeare’s tragic play, Macbeth, first presented in 1606, shows the fact that ambition is assessed to be a dreadful quality. A Scottish army officer titled Macbeth assists King Duncan and his army with absolute loyalty. Macbeth’s madness occurs according to the influence of certain characters in the play. The characters in Macbeth take part of a major role in shaping Macbeth to aim for ambition. The three witches apply their supernatural capabilities to alert Macbeth’s ambitions using their predictions and apparitions. Macbeth’s
wife, Lady Macbeth is a persuasive force that controls Macbeth effortlessly to aim for ambition using her masculinity. Macbeth’s ally, Banquo, possess qualities such as ambition and wisdom that is worrisome to Macbeth; this affects Macbeth in wanting to aim for ambition. With the use of the witches, Lady Macbeth and Banquo, Shakespeare suggests that propelled ambition motivates an individual to form decisions that might have regrettable consequences for both oneself and for others.
