Some stress that the president of America is required to have military experience in order to fit the role of Commander in Chief. That may have been true in the past when America was constantly at war and needed a president to lead us in Revolutionary War, World War I, or Vietnam. This may have been due to the fact that these presidents were so quick to attack. Machiavelli advises princes to always be on the look out for war and even goes as far to say that “in peace time he must train himself more than in time of war.”I believe that in our today’s time, what we truly need is a more diplomatic president. The best way to defend your country is by keeping peace not by going to war. The people need a president that they can relate to. Although many people go to the military, in reality only about 1% of the US population are in the armed forces.
