It's a common misconception that the war is over religion
but the war is actually over land - even though religion plays a small part. The problem was supposed to great britain's problem but britain handed it over to the U.N when they realized that colonies were not worth the trouble. The problem began to get worse and worse because of all the groups involved and nobody knowing what attack came from who. Madeline was the U.S ambassador for the U.N, but she didn't really take too many trips to the arab/ palestine area. For the most part she wrote letters back and forth to the Israeli-palestine area trying to push the leader get to a solution. The Clinton administration was close to finding a solution until Ariel Sharon began moving Israeli settlements into the west bank and many holy places. Because israel began to continue the “illegal” land grabs palestine people thought it was necessary to fight back and that's when the bombings began.
The ideas of Camp David [two mutually recognized sovereign states proposal] need to be resurrected, they're logical... We came very close to a solution."
"Albright Favours Return to Camp David Proposals," Canadian Jewish News, Apr. 25, 2002
In iraq half of a million children were dispensed through the was but albright “thought it was worth it. “our enemies want to derived the world making syrian refugees the enemy by playing into their hands.” (albright). The peacekeeping was costing a lot of money money that the U.S was running out of. Albright had many talks with assfrat and king hussein but they seemed to only but heads. The clinton administration and the israeli government had completely different agendas so every idea madeline presented got shot down quickly. Both sides began to get frustrated with each other and albright said she wasn't coming back until the leader were ready to “make those hard decisions.”
Madeline negative affect was when she choose her opinion over what she was told to do by the U.S. and the palestine area didn't like what she was doing/ saying but they thought she was following what U.S said became angered at the U.S. She seemed to be fixated on only saving the people when that was important she wasn't following orders.
Albright wished her and the clinton administration could have tackled the problem once and for all but don't think that they couldn't do anything more than what they did. Currently she believes the problem will never be fixed and that the U.N was wrong to get involved. She is still supportive of the two state solution.“There has to be a way that Palestine is recognized, that there’s a two-state solution, that the various points that have been put on the table are met”(the hill). She still does not think this war will ever be solved by anyone-that nothing can be done for this stateless nation.
