Maisie had first been inspired by stepping on a chewed up piece of gum while walking across the grass in the park. She had picked up her foot, and wiped it off in the grass. She then thought about someone else stepping on the gum and how awful it would be if it was a child who found him or herself in the same situation as her. An idea then came to her.
That same day, she went home and constructed a plan to make chewed up gum more useful and much more …show more content…
friendly to the environment. Maisie had came to the conclusion that she would be able to implant dozens of tiny seeds in one piece of gum.
Once she figured out how she was going to create environmentally safe and organic gum, she began to learn how to make gum using different ingredients included in regular gum and changing the ingredients that are bad for you to make the gum a better choice for you to chew.
The first flavor she created was blueberry, using organic fruits and no unnatural dyes. After creating five different flavors, she then added one more ingredient that is crucial to make the gum as unique as it is. Fruit seeds. This took over a year and a half to ensure that this gum safe for the human body to consume.
Maisie then began handing out her gum to her friends and family without telling them what is really inside. No one had seemed to notice that there are tiny plant babies inside of one piece of gum. The gum is smoothe like any other piece of gum, so it is difficult to detect the seeds.
“They reacted the same as if I had handed them a regular piece of gum. They had not even noticed that they were chewing gum created by me,” said Maisie in an interview we held with her. “My aunt even asked me where she could get a pack of the blueberry and watermelon gum. My grandpa also commented how the blueberry gum actually taste like the real fruit. I did not tell him right away that it was because it was actually made out of real fruit and not artificial
products.”
Maisie then tested that theory when she told everyone to spit their gum into the garden instead of the garbage can. “They had all looked at me with confusion, but they did not question me for even a second. Maybe because they think that I am mentally unstable,” Maisie said to us.
After week three of the gum being spit into the garden, she had noticed little plants sprouting from the moist soil. It was the gum working and doing it’s job to create a food plant out of it’s seed. A blueberry and raspberry bush was planted, as well as an apple and orange tree, a strawberry plant and even a few watermelon vines
Maisie now sells her packs of gum at the price of $1.99. A good price for what the gum does for us all economically. No more stepping in gum that has no purpose to it other than cavities and diabetes. The gum is healthy and organic with very little to no sugar, varying on the flavor of gum that you chose to get. The product is called “Organic Chews” and you can find it at any gas station or grocery store near you.
