The Teatro Olimpico, or Olympic Theatre was the last work that Andrea had designed. He actually died before he was able to complete it, so the project was finished by Vincenzo Scamozzi and Palladio’s son. What made Palladio’s theatre different from the ones that are in Rome was the fact that this theatre was indoors while the others are all outside. Although Andrea was gone, he continued to be an influence throughout the rest of the 16th century up until now.…
Have you ever wondered where the origins of theatre began? It is a well-known fact that the earliest forms of drama were developed in Ancient Greek by philosophers interested in using entertainment for social and philosophical commentary. It is essential that young people are exposed to the earliest form of scripted drama as it provides a foundation for understanding dramatic styles and conventions which are the basis for all the theatre which followed.…
From the inside, the globe theatre was just like I had expected it to be, the walls were decorated with carved- in paintings that had probably faded away throughout the years because you couldn’t see much of them now. The room was brightly lit by the sun and there was a massive stage in the middle where the actors acted out. At the back of the stage there was the musician’s gallery where the sounds took place. At the entrance I had to pay 5 pence for my seat. It would have been better sitting where the upper-class citizens (gentlemen’s rooms) sat but I was short out of money and thought it was too expensive, it would have cost me one shilling! Although it must have been worse for the lower –class citizens because they had to stand to watch the show.…
Throughout the late 1920 's an important theatrical movement developed: The Workers ' Theatre Movement. In the end, it diminished around the middle of the 1930 's, and one of the developments aiding the decline of the Workers ' Theatre Movement, was the creation of the Federal Theatre Project. The Federal Theatre Project was the largest and most motivated effort mounted by the Federal Government to organize and produce theater events. Once the government took on the duty of putting people to work, it was able to consider the movement. The Federal Theatre Project 's purpose was "to provide relief work for theatrical artists that utilized their talents and to make their work widely available to ordinary Americans, thus democratizing high culture." (www.answers.com) Furthermore the FTP tried to present theatre that was relevant socially, politically, and had popular prices, such as free shows. The majority of its famous productions, although not all of them, came out of New York City. New York had many units, such as, a classical unit, Negro unit, units performing vaudeville, children 's plays, puppet shows, caravan productions, and the new plays unit. The Federal Theatre Project was "the only fully government-sponsored theatre ever in the United States". (Witham 16)…
Two great writers of American musical theatre, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, had one common idea. They wanted to present to the American public a new, revolutionary musical that would stand out among the rest. They wanted to make an impact on the societies of the era. They wanted to be creative and do something that was considered rebellious. When they finally combined their ideas together they created an American masterpiece: Oklahoma!. This was the first Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration, starting the most successful creative partnership in the history of American musical theatre.…
Over time these contributions have been taken and adapted to create the theatre that many people know and love today. However, unlike in Ancient Greece; there are more than two styles of theatre today and not just by the means of the theatre types, for example; a proscenium theatre or theatre in the round, but the acting styles as well, such as Naturalistic, Non-Naturalistic, Epic theatre, Absurdism etc. These are seen as a collaboration of the developments of the theatre through out the different time periods and the practitioners of different…

It can be argued that Theatre Histories leads the reader too much with it’s active voice in approaching the history of American frontier theatre, colouring the view of the reader with it’s specific bias much in the way that the History of the Theatre does. This is true as the bias of the writers will come out within the writing. What must be considered though is that Theatre Histories presents a more racially equitable representation of the theatre when explaining this time that deepens the readers understanding of how theatre shapes nations and nations shape the theatre. In letting this perspective run through its narrative, it is able to construct a well rounded view of how theatre developed in the United States and its influence of it’s nationalistic rhetoric in creating a racialized theatre to promote of an idealized white American identity; that we can still see echoing in todays society.…
Theatre was not something that came naturally to me. When I came to Gautier High School, I was a quiet, reserved middle schooler just as ready to piss his pants as any other in his grade with the exception that I had the knowledge to not show it. I had yet to speak above a whisper and my yell was akin to a mouse’s yawn. In the words of a few teachers, I was “the most socially maladjusted child they had ever seen.” I was not a hot-shot and I most certainly didn’t crave to be the center of attention. So, in the moment of insanity that was my ninth grade year, I decided to audition for a school play. In the process of destroying preconceived notions, I met the singular most influential person, the director and theatre teacher, Amanda Brown.…

American Musical Theater is something most Americans enjoy today, musicals such as West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, Jersey Boys, Wicked and Into the Woods. These are all some examples that have made it big in today’s society. These musicals didn’t appear out of nowhere though and neither did American Musical Theater, nor was the theater the same when it started as it is today. The American Musical Theater has evolved from its simple beginnings into it’s own genre in today's society through the help of diverse composers, writers and actors, along with cultural contributions.…
The world has changed in many ways since Shakespear was living. That is because we have had new ideas, new inventions, and we have changed in how we do almost everything. Some of the main ways the world has changed is the way the audience acts at a play, how we are treated by our social status, and how the theaters looked and what went on inside of the theater.…
Theatre imitating life. Naturalism brought science into the game, with more electricity in theatres, removal of audience, putting them in the dark as if they were eavesdropping. Importance of everyday and ordinary. Potential tool for improving humanity by showing the wrongs. Brought in the fourth wall, analytical distance. extending the idea to the imaginary boundary between the audience and the stage. Character is more important than plot/action. The model of theatre as scientific ideas and the idea that human beings are distinguished by society, like showing the subject as a product of social forces. Playing around with that idea, like Emile Zola did in his play “Miss Julie” dropping a high class girl into a test tube with a servant (lower class) of particular type/ character and see what happens.…

Broadway is a giant, big and shiny world where everything has meaning, and has a purpose. It is a spectacular combination of singing, dancing, and acting. Broadway is sometimes misinterpreted sometimes as the “ Big Show of the Gays “ and that’s completely correct when you consider the thousands of performers who are doing what makes them the happiest people on earth.…
