The elegant mother was abandoned and force raise her children on her own. Fifteen days later the eggs hatched. There were five chicks; 4 males and one female. The mother raven raise her children well. She taught them to fly, fend for themselves, and find food. As her children grew old the mother raven watched as her children left one by one. Each of them finding a spouse perfect for them. But one did not find a spouse. This Raven’s name was Lily. Eventually Lily moved out. She flew far away from her siblings and mother. SHe flew for days and days across forests, oceans, and deserts. When she settled down to make her home she found herself in what seemed to be Egypt. She still couldn’t find a spouse so she set off looking for something to do. As Lily flew over a very extravagant palace, a strange man called her down. He addressed himself as the Pharaoh. The Pharaoh offered her a job as his messenger which she promptly accepted. Her job was very simple: She was required to send messages on command at any moment from the Pharaoh to any of his people. she served the pharaoh for many years. But, after a while she grew weary or her repetitive job. One day when she was turning to leave, the hapless peasant she had just given a message asked her a question. His name was Abbas. “Are you happy?” he asked. “Of course!” she replied.
“No but are you really happy?” Abbas said.
“No, I-I suppose not.”
“Why is that?”
“I don’t know maybe it’s because I really...really hate my job. Pharaoh is old and cross and-and bossy now I mean he is really aggravating me!”
“Then how about this…” For the rest of the day Lily and Abbas conversed about how she could enjoy her job more. After much discussion and a full-proof plan Lily returned to the Palace as if everything that happened that day was completely and utterly normal.
* * * The next day upon awaking Lily remembered how she had planned the pharaoh’s demise with her accomplice Abbas.
One she had readied herself for the day she left her home and set out to meet the pharaoh. But, on this day Lily did not fly her normal route to the palace. Instead of going straight to the palace she picked a basketful of berries. Upon arriving at the palace Lily found her friend Abbas to whom she gave the berries. Now Abbas was a good friend and loyal servant to the pharaoh. And he only did what he did because he envied power. Once Abbas reached the pharoah’s bedroom the pharaoh said “Good and faithful servant; fetch me a glass of wine.” To which Abbas responded with “But master, is it not too early for
wine?”
“It is never too early for wine!”
“Why no, sir I suppose not,” replied Abbas. Abbas had anticipated this would happen. So, he rushed downstairs to the kitchen and poured the pharaoh a glass of wine making sure to add the special berries Lily brought for him. After he had finished making his master’s drink he hurried up stairs and gave it to the Pharaoh. After having a quick drink with the Pharoah Abbas went downstairs becuase his master wanted to go back to sleep. Abbas found his way to Lily who was waiting for him in the main hall. “Did you do as we planned?” Lily asked. “Yes. The pharoah should be dead in minutes.”
* * * That evening the Pharoah was found poisined in his own bedroom. Surrounded by crazed royal officials Lily made an announcement to the kingdom that she would, with help from the royal minister would appoint a new leader. To their surprise the citizens of the kindom was happy that Pharoah had been killed. For his son was a wise military offical who was thought to be a great ledaer someday. And now he had his chance.
* * * Three years later the kingdom was alive and well. The new pharoah was a well accomplished leader. Lily found a mate in a handsome raven named Aflac to which bore her a child who they named Crow. Abbas also found a wonderful wife name Hoana. Lily, Aflac, Crow, Abbas, and Hoana all live long lond, splendid lives. Even after the legendary pahroah died the kingdom coranated Abbas and Hoana’s son as the new king. He was a great successor and aided the whole kingdom to living happily ever after.
