Make Me Stronger Quote
The statement “that which does not kill me, makes me stronger,” has become a very well-known and powerful quote in American culture. It has even inspired new forms of the quote as well as songs. The song “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson states that “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, stand a little taller, doesn’t mean I’m lonely when I’m alone, what doesn’t kill you makes a fighter…” She is singing exactly what this statement is about. Kanye West also wrote a song titled “Stronger,” that uses the same motivational quote, in which he says “that that don’t kill me can only make me stronger.” He also wrote that it “makes us harder, better, faster, stronger..” Just like these two iconic American singers, I too agree with the statement that

Kanye West’s 2007 hit song, “Stronger” uses Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger”. In his novel, The Happiness Hypothesis, Jonathan Haidt states his hypothesis that people must endure all the hardships of life in order to grow in all aspects. I agree with both Nietzsche and Haidt that through perseverance of all difficulties that occur in life, we can develop a stronger physical, social, mental, and emotional state. I find Haidt’s suggestion interesting because many hardships I have endured and am continuing to endure, prove his suggestion valid.…

“Every day every hour. Turn the pain into power.” Danny O’Donoghue, a vocalist member of the band The Script, sings in “Superheroes” about the strength that comes with overcoming the struggles presented in life; similarly this message can be seen in Ishmael Beah’s recount of the challenges he faced as a victim of war, A Long Way Gone. To me, the song is a reminder of how difficulties can build someone into a stronger person. Throughout the song, all the lyrics hint that without suffer and perseverance, success cannot be achieved. Similarly, in Beah’s story, he becomes a teenager with more fortitude only after breaking down and experiencing immense grief and pain both physically and mentally. From listening to and analyzing “Superheroes” and reading A Long Way Gone, I learn that only after breaking down and…

When you were growing up as a young adult, who do you think had more influence in your life? Your parents or your friends, or your community maybe even your teachers at school. I know my parents don’t influence me as much as my community. That’s why I think that this quote “It takes a village to raise a child” by Hillary Clinton relates to the book “And Still We Rise”. In the quote by Martin Luther King about how hate cannot drive out hate, only love can, is the same concept with, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai’s speech to the UN. Her speech expresses her thoughts and drive about education and women's rights. First, a quote from Malala’s speech which is similar to Mr. King’s quote. “We realize the importance of light when we see darkness,” defends King’s quote because she is saying we see the goodness/love in the world when hate is shown. Love does drive out hate. Next, a quote from an unknown author. “Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations,” provides a sense of positivity for an end result. The lyrics of the pop song, “Stronger”, by Kelly Clarkson, is highly significant because of its empowering message. The lyrics allow listeners to feel confident about being strong no matter what or who may try to bring someone down, even if it were their own mistakes. To convey this message, Clarkson used many literary devices. For example, in lines like, “What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, Stand a little taller” there is external rhyme, which makes the song more pleasurable to the ears. Its chorus, “What doesn't kill you makes you stronger” is a metaphor, that refers to the fact the previous mistakes and people that hurt one’s feelings, should making them stronger. The theme of these lyrics is that there needs to be growth…
