In the essay, "Don’t You Think It's Time to Start Thinking," Northrop Frye argues that students have not been properly taught the skills of good thinking. Frye states that in today's society everyone believes that thinking can be obtained without training. However, he believes students need to be taught carefully, as true thinking is defined as the practice of expressing ideas until they are in the right words. He continues by stating that only a few people have the ability to articulate at all. Frye believes that we've gotten into this state of bad thinking because in today's society there are several currents that work against the development of articulating.…

I find it really important that teachers understand that they are learning with the students. Students will teach the teachers on how certain material should be taught or how it is comprehended. In the recent year’s school have welcomed new technology into classrooms. This new technology can strongly improve a student’s learning but it also requires knew knowledge for the teacher as well. Webster (1990) stated that, much of the thinking teachers ask children to do is convergent thinking, the type of thinking that results in a single, correct answer. When children are asked to name things such as signs, symbols, composers, or a piece of music, they are directed to think convergently. In performance, for instance, children are asked to conform to the correct pitches and rhythms of a song, although often creativity is encouraged in the area of interpretation. At the heart of creative thought is a different type of thinking, which is divergent thinking (Schafer, 1976). This is when teachers ask children for many possible answers. For example, children would be challenged to discover how many different sounds a percussion instrument…
In the carnation experiment the teacher asked the children, not what will happen, but “What do you think will happen?” when she stood the white flower in a glass of red liquid. The children hypothesized (guessed) a number of possibilities, which the teacher wrote down. The teacher then asked them why they thought so. Most had based their answers on their own knowledge or experience. They were not just shouting out an answer but were thinking about different possibilities. Picture books can also help children think about thinking if teachers choose appropriate books and pose thought-provoking…
Anaisa Cunha states in her article that many teachers, while using the brainstorming technique with their students cannot use it themselves to think of other possibilities and see things from different angles (2011). They don’t have the courage to abandon their mode of thinking in order to open up a whole new world of possibilities by thinking creatively.…

The beliefs we held about children’s learning are deeply grounded in our own convictions on what it means to be knowledgeable, intelligent, experienced, and what it takes to become so. Whether implicit or explicitly stated, these convictions drive our attitudes and practices as educators, parents, teachers, and researchers. We believe that knowledge is actively constructed by the child in interaction with his /her world and henceforth emphasis should be to offer opportunities for kids to engage in hands-on explorations that fuel the constructive process. If this is not done, the learner will achieve only a partial understanding…
In order to effectively teach students, a teacher must do a number of things. Most importantly, a teacher should give students opportunities to engage in real-life scenarios, while providing them with support when it’s necessary. In addition, students should be introduced to a variety of learning methods to find the one best for them. Furthermore, learning should be fun and somehow tied in with everyday life. In general, a positive atmosphere that influences learning must be created for students. The extent of effectively teaching does not end there, a teacher must also properly assess students to determine what they have and have not learned.…
