The time period of this book was exactly one year after she got shot in October 8, 2012. She got her autobiography published after one year. She was recovering from her bullet wounds when she was writing her story of what had happened. This book reflects on how nothing can get in your way and how you can always fight for what you believe in. The controversies of this piece is the book itself. It was only written to tell her story of the Taliban's shooting her. She wants to let them know that they will not be able to bring her down. When this piece was written, the Taliban's were destroying schools and killing or attacking those who wanted to stand up for their rights.
