Malcolm X Role Model
His name sounds like it can be a superhero’s name, but he, Malcolm X, being a rights-activist and public speaker, once said, “I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their color.” (Quotes by X 1). X, a role model to the black community and founder of the Muslim Mosque Inc., was a powerful black leader who fought for human rights and equality. X became one of the most known people, somewhat of an alternative to Martin Luther King Jr., to speak up against the law. Many, not just X and King, did believe in equality amongst all, yet they only preached and complained without actually doing anything to make a change. A leader does not have to be someone in a higher class or someone who has money. A leader should be passionate and should not give up no matter what people throw at them for standing up for themselves. Although leaders may have troubles, true leaders should be able to try their best and do whatever it takes for the greater good. …show more content…

Initially, his legal name was Malcolm Little, however, in 1952, he changed his surname to X because it stood for his lost tribal name, and because he believed that Little was his slave name. Malcolm lived with his mother, father, and seven siblings. His father, Earl Little, supported Marcus Garvey, the leader of Universal Negro Improvement Association (which was dedicated to racial pride). The Black Legion (a white supremacist organization) didn’t appreciate Earl’s support of the Black Nationalist and drove him out of town with death threats, causing him to relocate with his family many times. Even though they moved, their house got burnt down in Michigan, 1929. Two years later, in 1931,…

Christian Alex Amezquita- Malcolm X has had a lot of events happen early in his life that has affected/shaped him throughout his entire life. For example, there was that time when the welfare workers came to Malcolm's house to split up his family and send his mom to an insane asylum (Kalamazoo). In addition, Malcolm was put with a white family whom treated him like an over glorified dog. He never could feel as if he was one of them, but always felt that he was beneath them. Furthermore, Malcolm's teacher telling him that he could not become a lawyer because of his color really had an impact on him. All of these events gave Malcolm a good reason to become a Civil Rights leader. These events where the wood to his fire and Elijah Muhammad was his flint and steel.…

Throughout history America has not lived up to the founding ideal of equality for all. There have been many cases in America where people have been persecuted based on their gender, race or religion. Now that is not to say that the same cannot be said about everywhere else in the world, historically persecution against certain groups of people has always existed. However, for a country founded on freedom and equality America has had failures, from slavery, to gender inequality to modern day racism. Malcolm X grew up in a tough place for an African American; he was constantly judged for the color of his skin. He was persecuted throughout his life. Perceptions of Malcolm X

The American perception of the so-called 'Black Muslim ' movement has been largely characterized by fear and distortion, what the Black Muslim community itself has referred to as a "natural reaction" of the oppressor race when faced with the same vitriol it holds for its victims. The most prominent example of this distortion lies in the popular legacy of Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz), whose belief in self-defense against racist aggression has been ambiguously immortalized as a violent racism. This perception is not necessarily based in reality and is not really a fair portrayal of the beliefs of Malcolm X, especially after his splitwith the Nation of Islam in 1963.…

Mr. King can be described as the epitome of a relational leader as he possessed all the elements of the relational leadership model. He was not only inclusive, empowering and ethical, but also purposeful and process-oriented. During his now famous ‘I have a dream’ speech, he gave us tremendous insight into how each of us can make the world a better place, a place where all people are created free and equal. He strived for inclusive environments where people with varied perspectives, skills and experiences collaborate. By his motivational speeches and the things he said, he empowered black people to feel that they could be more than how white people treated them. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., promoted the best interest of his followers, thus, he was an ethical leader. He was both purposeful and process-oriented in the way he acted on his vision for change. Through his active protests and speeches, he influenced the change of equality, where black people will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.…

As well all know we are in the month of February. February is the month of love and the month to celebrate black history. Today I am going to talk about the one and only Malcolm X. I asked many people who they thought Malcolm X was and none of them knew. They were saying that he was a boxer, a black dude, or a random guy who was celebrated. But little did they know that he was kind of like Martin Luther King except that he believed in taking any means necessary to get equal rights. Now let me go back to when he was born. Malcolm X was born as Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. (Here’s a fact: Malcolm X and I were born on the same day and in the same month.) Malcolm X attended West Junior High School, where he was the school 's only black student. He excelled academically and was well liked by his classmates, who elected him class president. However, he later said that he felt that his classmates treated him more like the class pet than a human being. The turning point in Malcolm X 's childhood came in 1939, when his English teacher asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up and he answered that he wanted to be a lawyer. His teacher responded, "One of life 's first needs is for us to be realistic… you need to think of something you can be… Why don 't you plan on carpentry?" As a result of being told that there was no point in a black child pursuing education, Malcolm X dropped out of school the next year at the age of 15. After quitting school, Malcolm X moved to Boston to live with his older half-sister Ella, about whom he later recalled, "She was the first really proud black woman I had ever seen in my life. She was plainly proud of her very dark skin. This was unheard of among Black people in those days." Ella landed Malcolm a job shining shoes at the Roseland Ballroom. However, out on his own on the streets of Boston, Malcolm X became acquainted with the city 's criminal…
