“Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader…. they set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role-always about the goal.”- Unknown. Malcolm X is a courageous advocate for the rights of blacks. UNICEF needs a new ambassador after Alyssa Milano stepped down to travel to Kosovo to participate in the commemoration of World Children's Day. Some might say that Eleanor Roosevelt would be a good ambassador for UNICEF, but Malcolm X would be a better ambassador UNICEF because he is determined, hard working, and a self-taught. Malcolm X never realized how many words existed. He only knew street language but, that wasn’t going to get him anywhere. Malcolm X was determined to learn the words he never knew existed. Since he was in prison he read more in his cell than in the library. Every night about ten P.M. he would be scandalized with “lights out.”Right outside his door there was a corridor light that shined a glow into his cell. “As soon as the guard passed, I got back out of the bed onto the floor area of that light-glow, where I would read another fifty-eight minutes-until the guard approach again.”- Malcolm X (Pg.635) He continued to do this until three or four every morning. Three or four hours of sleep was enough for him because often in the streets, he slept less than that. Malcolm X was very hard working. Having determination is the best thing a spokesperson for UNICEF can have. Being determined means that when someone sets a goal they will make it, weather it takes a lot of hard work, a lot of determination, and/or a lot of time. It can take a person months even years to accomplish that goal and they don't do it to have a role but to set their goal. Malcolm X’s determination was to get an education. He was able to accomplish different things in such a short amount of time. Hardworking is also one of the most important part of a person because it shows all the work they put into something big or small. Self-taught makes an impact on how people see a person because it shows that they are really hard working and they had a lot of determination to do something for themselves. Malcolm X never got an education, he had to get his education from ripping out pages from each dictionary. “I would just like to study. I mean ranging study, because I have a wide-open mind.
