I come from the bustling capital city of Kathmandu, located in the tiny Himalayan nation of Nepal in South Asia. Home to the tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest and wedged between two giant economies, India and China, I was born and raised in a middleclass family. Although I moved to Hawaii in 2007 for my father’s PhD at the University of Hawaii, I returned to Nepal in 2012. Seeing and experiencing stark contrasts of a developed western nation and a developing south Asian country opened my eyes. This is the major factor that encourages me to strive to make a change andmake a positive difference in my country.

This still remains true because I have always been taking initiative to participate in challenging and productive. But I was never as confident and open to people as I have become. Taking part in the Model United Nations has helped me build my confidence as well as my interpersonal skills. I firmly believe that my participation in the activity for the last 4 years has truly elicited the most valuable growth within me. I have learned to become more diplomatic, which I believe is a vital quality to have. Being a delegate representing a country or a diplomat in UN stimulations has provided me with the opportunity to contribute to resolve global issues. Which is why I have learned that everybody should get what they need and not just what they want.. My participation in numerous Model UNs, both national and international, has helped me forge connections and friendships with people comingfrom different socio-cultural backgrounds. Listening to other people’s ideas and perspectives has allowed me to become broad-minded and more understanding of contentious issues that affect the world
