What career would you like to pursue as you get older? I personally would like to become a Neonatal nurse practitioner. A NNP just seems like a great job and it could be worth my while.…
I have been preparing for my future career all my life. Although my career choices have changed several times over the years, my desire to care for others has never changed. Children have always gravitated to me and me to them which led me to choose my career of becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I have researched and mapped out my pathway to achieving such a goal and I am very excited at what lies ahead.…
According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the career projection for nurses in general is expected to increase by 16% by 2024 (Neonatal Nurse: Career Summary, Job Outlook, and Education Requirements, n.d.). The Miami Herald, in partner with careerbuilder.com, currently lists four available job offers for NICU nurses in South Florida (NICU Nurse jobs in Miami, FL, n.d.). After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree and an RN license, one should begin their search for a position in the neonatal unit at a hospital where they can gain experience caring for healthy newborn infants, as it is required to act as a qualified neonatal intensive care unit nurse. According to Payscale.com, the average entry-level salary for a NICU nurse is roughly $56,000; however, that can increase substantially with additional experience. The national average salary is approximately $64,000 (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)…
If I chose to live in the midwest I would only make about $45K a year. If I decided to live in the California bay area, I would make around $100K a year (Neonatal Nurse Practitioners/Neonatal Nurses!!??). Neonatal nurse practitioners have claimed to receive the highest base salary among the eight different nurse practitioner specialities (Salary: How Much Does a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Make?). As a neonatal nurse practitioner I would generally make a salary between $31.73 to $52.40 per hour (NICU-Neonatal Travel Nursing Jobs: Sustaining Life for Vulnerable…
After Graduate School, I hope to have my PhD in psychology or my doctorate in psychiatry. I would like to start out working in jails, talking to criminals and analyzing their brains versus the brain of an average adult to study how the brain reacts with criminal activity and why they do and feel what they do. I have heard that a person can not do that type of work for very long because it is emotionally tasking so after that, I would like to open my own counseling practice up. I would do either marriage and family therapy or focus on teenage depression. Eventually, I would like to retire into school psychology or become a psychology teacher. Also, if I ever have enough money, I will buy a house devoted to taking in stray animals…
After I graduate, it is required of me to become a registered nurse by going to nursing school for a number of years. As a neonatal nurse, I must become certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing due to the fact that I will be handling ill infants. Many hospitals in different locations require nurses to complete a small number of years of clinical experience in a hospital setting before practicing as a neonatal nurse. There are 3 different levels of neonatal nursing. Level 1 neonatal nurses take care of healthy infants after they are born. However, there isn't a major demand for these types of nurses because many infants are more likely to stay in the same room with their mother. A level 2 neonatal nurse, which is what I plan on becoming, takes care of premature infants or infants born with illnesses. Level 2 nurses are much more of a necessity than any of the other levels because sick infants need constant attention. A level 2 neonatal nurse may seem as though they have a lot of responsibility on their hands being that they're working with ill infants, but they don't compare to Level 3 neonatal nurse practitioners. Level 3 neonatal nurses work in the NICU with extremely ill infants. They work countless hours checking in on the ill infants and making sure they are responding well to treatments. Level 3 neonatal…
Personally I would like to work in pediatrics or obstetrics, but after reading these articles it has made me realize, I will not know what my personal fit is until I am actually in practice. At this point in my life I am in stage one which is the introduction and educational aspect of the nursing career (Donner, G. J., & Wheeler, M. M., 2001). To plan for my career I need to find…
When it comes to my education my short-term goal is to finish out this school year and maintain my current GPA. I find it easier to motivate myself each day if I have set in stone grade goals in mind. My long-term education goal is to finish my Associate of Applied Business degree in spring 2017 and my Associate of Arts degree in spring of 2018. I have enough classes and credit hours to finish a second associate degree in two part-time semesters. My short term career goal is to continue where I am until I graduate and learn as much as I can from those around me. I find that the people around me at my current jobs are very intelligent and it would be wasteful of me to not learn what I can from them before I move on. My long-term career goal…
I have worked in career field for twenty years. I still have career goals and I have hit a ceiling due to my lack of a degree. I want to further my education and continue to advance in career. Part of me feels that I am to old to get my degree, but I have decided that I can do this, I can get my degree and now it's about me succeeding educationally. I want to complete school and have a degree. I want to know that I can achieve my dream of graduating from college. I realize that I am never to old to reach my goals. I want to go back and graduate so I can say that I am a college…
As a child growing up I think I always wanted to work in the medical field, seeing my mother as a LPN. I also have always had a natural interest in the medical field because I like to watch a lot of ER and hospital shows. At first I didn’t really know what health career I wanted to pursue. I just knew that I liked being in the healthcare class and learning about the different health science careers and what they do. I think a medical office administration assistant would be a very good career for me because I am very helpful and can always be counted on when people need me. This is not my only career choice, it’s just the first I want to pursue. One year after graduation I will hopefully have my medical assisting certificate or at least be working on getting it. Around my five year mark I want to try to get a degree from a nursing school and become licensed as a registered nurse. After that I will try to specialize in pediatrics, so I can be a pediatric nurse. In ten years, I want to get my nurse practitioners license, so that I could work directly with a pediatrician.…
“Warriors of love who fight alongside our babies” (unknown). Wahhh! As the new born is crying, the mother is concerned about the cries of the baby. She sees the nurse panic and is scared to death about what’s going on. When mother discovers that the baby’s health is not in good condition, her heart drops.…
I want to be happy, to help others, and to make a positive impact on others. I would love to be a motivational speaker because it's easier to change a person’s life with your personal stories and words, rather than forcing them to do things. I want to tell troubled teenagers and kids that it's never too late; you can be something in life despite what you've been through or what others may think, say, and feel about you. That's my biggest goal in life, to give others the same opportunity I was given. To show that second chances are real. I would also love to be an Athletic Trainer or Firefighter. Regardless of the path I take, I know that whatever I do in life, I will make a difference. I feel like with me being an Athletic Trainer I can give an athlete a second chance at the respected sport they love. I could also inspire people to do more than just play the sport they love; I could inspire them to go out and make a difference. Being a Firefighter I could save lives. I would play a key role in the community, giving back more than I…
I have known in my heart since I was a little girl what I wanted to be when I grew up. It was not a stereotypical child’s dream such as a lawyer or an astronaut; my vision was instead something that has effected my community on a regular basis. In the last few years I have realized that my passion for crime solving and the medical field is a natural calling that I am destined to follow. I plan on specializing in Forensic Pathology.…
At a time when technology is advancing at such a rapid rate, to aid this growth and to make a difference no matter how small has always been one of my greatest ambitions. Having been brought up with strong family values, I have been taught that further education would provide many opportunities for me to develop both as a person and as a member of society…
Once graduated with my degree I plan on opening my own practice. There will always be needs for doctors, so I am not worried about the field of study I am going into. I will definitely work full time. Starting out my annual earnings will be about $45,000 to $55,000. After about five to ten years, once I am established in my field my annual salary will go up to $65,000 to $90,000.…
