Male Speaker: The Mystery Of Moving Rocks
Male Speaker: This is a mystery story about Toby, Tabitha and the yellow monkey. It is the mystery of the moving rocks. One day, Toby, Tabitha and the yellow monkey were going to where there is some new construction and they had visited the day before. They had noticed some very pretty rocks off of the side of the road where they are building a new school.

It wasn’t a house or anything like that, it was a new school. They decided that they were going to go play on the rocks that were right off the side of the road at the entrance to the new school. They hadn’t put the driveway down yet and they were just going to go and sit on the rocks. The rocks were very big. I mean, about as big as a small car. They were three or four of them all together

There was another sign that said, new construction, new fire house to the right. They looked at each other and said, I forget which is which. The yellow monkey said, I think the firehouse was to the left and the school was to the right the last time we were here, but these signs are different.

Well, I guess we need to follow the sign to the left because that is where the schoolhouse is supposed to be. That is what the sign says. Tabitha said, I think you are right yellow monkey. The last time we were here the school was on the right and the firehouse was on the left. Toby said, but the sign says, school on the left, we have to go left. So, they went to the left.

They get to where the school is supposed to be and they can see the construction site off in the distance. Right there were four big rocks. Man, they were right there, only the problem is, they are not off to the side of the road, they are in the middle of the new driveway. Not where they are supposed to be. They said, that is strange. They sat up on the rocks and decided that they would solve this

My bulldozer blade was broken because the elephants were pushing down trees and the dog gone tree fell on the bulldozer blade and broke it. Now I have to go back and get it fixed. Oh, they said. I got it, said Tabitha. It was the signs. Remember how the signs were all switched around and different. We came to the wrong construction site. This is the firehouse construction site and not the school construction site. We got in the wrong site.

They went back to where the signs were and said, no wait a minute. They weren’t turned around, we were turned around. Yesterday we came from the other direction. So, of course, left was right, and right was left. This time, today, we came from our house, which is the opposite direction. We actually went to the right place. Oh, they said. Now we are really stumped. Just then, up walked the head construction guy who was building everything and said, did you all feel the earthquake this morning?

They said, what? The earthquake, did you feel the earthquake? Yes sire, my cereal moved a little bit and everything shook in the house. He said, it was worse out here, we need to move those rocks from all the way over there to here in the middle of the road, how about that. Ah-ha they said, that is how the rocks got there, it was an earthquake. Oh my goodness. So that is how the mystery of the moving rocks got

32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. But he didn’t have a car? Rufus ran to the office to explain the…

The results of these earthquakes was devastating. Trees were up rooted and looked to be tossed around like toothpicks. There was wide spread damage extending from St. Louis to all the way to Pennsylvania where supposedly the Liberty bell rang from the strong quakes.(Nuttli) Thirty miles south, in the river town of what is today Caruthersville, Missouri, all twenty houses were destroyed, and the surrounding land was rendered almost unrecognizable. The ground rolled in several-foot-high waves until they burst, hurling up geysers of water, sand, and a charcoal-like substance. Giant fissures swallowed buildings, along with anyone inside.…
