The assignment is to observe a child ranging in age from two to six years old completing a language arts activity. The child I observed for this assignment is an almost three year old (34 month) neighborhood girl. I will call her Emily. She lives in a house with both her parents; they are a middle class family. Emily is not in preschool yet, she stays home with her mom, but they regularly attend playgroups and music and gym classes where she gets to interact with other children her age. Emily is very outgoing and very talkative. In my opinion, her speech development is advanced for her age, she passes all the developmental language-related milestones for her age group and a few for the next age group as outlined on page 97 of our textbook (Machado, Jeanne M., 2007.
