An academic research constitutes is that is must be approved by an academic quality assessment, before publishing an academic article. It also needs to be revised by referees this process is called peer-reviewing, designed and guarantee an articles academic standard. The following types of academic scholarly research should be looked into such as originality, reviews and theoretical articles. Finally an academic/scholarly article should end in edu and gov.

and multicultural health care organization to promote organizational effectiveness.
It can be a bit complicated promoting effectiveness to an organization, managing a multidisciplinary and multicultural healthcare organization becomes challenging. For example by building knowledge on multicultural clients can help the staff such as nursed, meet their challenge of caring/understanding patients’ needs and can be more sensitive towards their health conditions. This brings an understanding on cultural diversity not only with patients but families. It’s a comfortable feeling when patients are able to relate with someone who understand them. The article on University Medical Center states the awareness program on multicultural was developed at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and clinics in Madison.
After providing and developing a questionnaire on multicultural awareness program it was found three major cultural groups, which were Hispanics and Native Americans, following by two of religious groups such as Jewish and Jehovah’s Witness beliefs. Along this came the language barrier, family participation, general health beliefs and death beliefs practices and rituals. Patients refused blood transfusion do to their beliefs of Jehovah’s Witness.
Furthermore, challenges of multisite multicultural research indicate the “cultural Competence/multisite in research and management collaborates with facilities on domestic violence shelters” (Hawkins, J, & Haggerty, L 2004). One of the main challenges is to under patients’ rights and it’s necessary that the client comes first and is taken care of properly and not turned away from the facility they would like to be seen. I have witness how Hispanics are left for hours in a waiting area because of their language barrier, they need to find someone to translate for them, and if there isn’t a person on staff the patient must wait a long period of time.
I chose to write on this topic because I found it interesting to write and learn more about.
This paper shows the effectiveness of management traits are needed in the health care organization. In addition, effective/efficient leaders in management are needed for employees with good working skills/relations. It is also important that a leader is to take a refresher course for leadership; excellent leadership makes a great difference and a positive working environment.
Management is an organizational goal to achieve, uniting with Human resources and creating goals which involve leadership, towards a group of individuals such as people/staff. It will keep the vision going to capacitate others to become great employees and help them with setting goals for themselves.
“Effective leadership, management traits and theories are considered essential when managing a multidisciplinary and multicultural healthcare organization” (Baack, & Fisher 2013). Therefore, effective manager traits are necessary for managing a multidisciplinary and multicultural in a healthcare …show more content…
organization.
It is advised that management doesn’t stereotype, discriminate and have low priority. These are considered poor management techniques. In an organization staff/employees won’t be able to operate in an inappropriate environment. Poor behavior and performance is seen on human resources when a manager isn 't an effective leader. The role of management/leader is for employees to achieve set goals/objectives. Finally, Effective and efficient leaders allows a healthcare provider to achieve the vision, that goal to help employee to achieve their set goals. Matthews, P. (2005), explains how efficient are leaders when their able to provide motivation to their staff members.
The effectiveness this may bring is having comfortable multicultural clients, and it only will work when management and leadership are able to manage multidisciplinary among staff members. Without this there is a big impact which will cause a problem, it only takes a good leader and manager being a visionary means to set goals in order to direct the staff accordingly. When handling a management position there are things that can’t be tolerated, a guideline needs to be enforced this will provide harmony within co –workers and improve communication, increasing the morale of the organization. Being an example is the key to an effective job performance.
What happens when there is poor leadership within an organization? The atmosphere with employees could bring depression; staff might feel bullied by their leaders. Causing them not to perform well and make mistakes. It’s not fun to work in a hostile environment, team work and understanding is required not only make staff confortable but because there is a list of clients who need the assistance and need of medical care.
In addition, there are great benefits which come from motivated staff members, working with enthusiastic and being recognized for their hard work. This will bring less stress in the environment. Such recognitions are for healthcare managers to offer higher pays along with pensions. Multicultural isn’t a factor when it comes to choosing a well performed employee, it isn’t about race but of hard work. As mentioned prior the importance of motivation and being a role model, knowledge and wisdom makes a great leader.
A good reputation and professionalism in an organization is done by a manager who is on point with what goes on in the office and actions are taken immediately when a rule is violated. “Strategic planning is developed in organization, by activities into coherent course of action” (Bedeian, 1986, p.100). identifying and analyzing “SWOT” in an organization creates good employers to reach growing goals and help the company grow. Furthermore, an organization provides all sorts of clinics, treatments and surgeries. Which means that it’s necessary to assist multicultural clients, there is a large amount of Hispanics who have plastic surgeries, whether it’s done in the United States or out of State. Baack & Fischer state that hospitals need to take advantage and create a positive image building event. Finding a good surgeon is difficult especially when someone doesn’t speak the language, how will they communicate? I believe that every facility should have a large multicultural staff, to provide the best assistant for their patients. With the government help providing Medicare and Medicaid bring great relief; having a staff providing assistance and helping a family with low income apply for these benefits bring great leadership and management. When the patient is already stressed with his/her sickness the last thing they want is be responsible of an outstanding balance. Great customer service will make the client come back to the facility and this will give a good rating. Hospitals are filled with physicians who do not participate with several health insurances; this makes it difficult for clients to choose which doctor they would like to be seen by but because of patients’ rights/privileges they have no choice to see the client because it’s unlawful to turn a patient away when they need medical assistance. By violating this law will jeopardize the facility, affecting the staff members. Next shortage of personnel in a healthcare setting affects the organizations ability of properly accommodating patients waiting for a bed, this causes clients to wait long hours in a waiting area, not only the shortage of nurses but at times physicians are attending other patients. This is a serious situation; a client is in need of treatment and can die during this wait period. According to U.S. Department of Health states medical facilities fail to have adequate nursing staff, tend to have higher rates of poor patient outcomes (Services Shepheard, J. 2011). A perfect example and true testimony is when my father in law suffered a heart attack, he was rushed to the hospital and in the emergency room he had to wait for a bed, for one he doesn’t understand nor speak English therefore the nurse attending him didn’t understand what his situation was. Luckily my husband arrived and was able to say something to the physicians, if it wasn’t because he arrived on time my father in law would have passed. He was in extreme pain and no one was able to understand him. Choosing and training the staff will bring good outcome in the organization. The world is full of multi-cultural human beings and we all come in different shapes and sizes, we either speak a language someone else doesn’t speak. This being said, something needs to be done in the healthcare organization. Our first priority is the clients/patients, those families who need medical treatment. Mother in labor, traumatic patients do to motor vehicle accidents or injury at work.
This has affected society such as hospitals are being sue, facilities have closed down because of outstanding balances owe. Patients choose doctors who can relate to them, such as Native American will seek to go with a doctor in his language, an Asian will seek and Asian doctor and a Latin American with one who speaks Spanish. This is understandable because many patients are being unnecessarily treated and more tests are done in order to find out what is the diagnosis. It saddens me because I remember my grandfather going through this situation; his language barrier didn’t help him explain what was bothering him. This made it so difficult and such a stressful situation for him; he didn’t trust the staff or the physicians. He felt at any time they were going to kill him, my grandfather complaint how the staff hit him on the head and used force to hold him down. This is brutality and it was brought to patient advocate. He then was transferred to another facility where he felt comfortable. Every time I remember it brings tears to my eyes, why is it permitted and overlooked. Being multicultural doesn’t mean we need to be ignored and overlooked. Multicultural makes us all the same; religion doesn’t make us any different. First the facility needs to come off with a strategy on gaining the patients trust and respect, equality toward patients in healthcare organizations is a must. Violating client’s hipaa rights is unlawful, management need to provide their staff with training and implement diversity programs. Being sensitive will help them understand their patients better, respecting them and overall being professional shows signs of responsibility in the work field. The scenario that comes to mind on the lady who was in labor and the obgyn physician didn’t want to see her because the insurance wasn’t covering therefore he wanted to transfer her to another facility. All I can think of is how the physician was putting this baby’s life in danger anything could happen because the baby was showing signs of distress. This physician acted in a cold insensitive behavior, the family not speaking the language unable to communicate as they wish. I learned how there is a law for discrimination do to insurance or culture; this is called “distribute justice healthcare disparity” also with the EMTALA law who protects patients’ rights. It is unlawful to send the client to another facility; the hospital can get in so much trouble and be penalized. I also learned the law on “breach of duty” the physician definitely failed to treat the client. In conclusion to avoid these entire scenarios and testimonies one thing needed to be done comes through leadership, a leader is an individual who has a team to direct and make sure that the vision/mission is achieved. Effective and efficient leader/manager traits are essential within an organization, it is difficult to find the right candidate however and employees who have good working skills and have leader skills in them are a good asset and provide positive impact in the environment of the organization. Human resources play a big role in hiring the right employee. Self-motivation is one trait management should possess while working in a healthcare setting, creating strategies to help the facility achieve the goals and have excellent customer service skills. A sign of trust and integrity is another trait managers need to have, doctors need leaders whom they can trust it shows that they can an example to employees. It’s a good feeling to work around people who are trustworthy. I learned that in all the organizations team players are needed to improve the need of the organization. In addition, Managers also need to show signs of optimism and show effectiveness, confidence of what they know so they may be able to do the duties needed. The most important of all is being able to handle clients this will allow clients to continue coming to the facility, therefore leadership skills is required.
Recruiting a manager who has strong leadership skills and is able to lead a team, have strong communication skills and most of all be able to delegate task to staff members. If an organization is unable to find effective traits in leaders and managers, they put themselves at risk to being ineffective. Not having a vision or mission will result to in an atmosphere/workforce which will require morale. Poor management leads to a healthcare institute unable to conduct their daily duties, affecting the patients in need of care. In conclusion, in order for individual in an organization to operate correctly, its necessary that healthcare institutions hire managers/leaders who have the proper leadership skills and traits. This will affect the performance and behavior in their job settings, an efficient leader should be able to motivate his/her staff. As example, employees who are motivated are able to work better and perform their duties. It’s unfortunate that managers and leaders, whom are not effective, will be unable to serve clients/patients. Choose your right candidate to be in control of leadership in the organization.
