In Kiss of the Spider Woman, written by Manuel Puig, two men with completely different personalities share a cell together. Molina is a gay man who is practically portrayed as a woman, and loves retelling the fantasy and romance of several movies. On the other hand, Valentin is a fierce revolutionary with an attitude, who constantly reminisces of a woman he once left before. Although, the character's and overall content of the book seem quite compelling. Puig’s conventions, narration, and specific structure and main purpose of writing a novel is far more eye catching. In Kiss Of The Spider Woman, Puig conforms to and deviates from the conventions of a novel written in 1976 in order to provide his audience with insight of structure , narration, …show more content…
Puigs unique writing style makes the novel far more compelling and more eye catching, but some may say that the narration of the novel is quite confusing to read. However, the fact that there is no narration within the novel, only makes Puig’s writing style more unique and stronger to the reader. Within the novel, there is no third person narration, and the dialogue between Valentin and Molina is different from dialogue used between character's in other novels. Instead of using quotations when there is dialogue between two characters , Puig just so happens to use dashes every time there is dialogue. When a character just finishes speaking in Kiss of the Spider Woman, Puig also does not mention who had stated what. For example the novel states,”-I can clean you up, don’t worry about it. You just relax”(Puig 141). This makes it difficult for the reader to understand who is speaking at the moment, and may cause them to re-read, due to confusion. However, Puig’s specific dialogue structure definitely highlights the brilliance of his writing style. Although, the dialogue within Puig’s novel may be difficult to read at first. It proves that Puig’s main purpose for the narration and writing style of his novel is to give the readers a better perspective on the character's and to give the reader a new style of

In novels it is common for the concept of love or sexuality to be present. This idea can present itself in many forms, and in both Jerzy Kosinski’s book Being There and Angela Carter’s book The Bloody Chamber this is illustrated. In both books the concept of love and sexuality can be seen in both dark and light contexts, with highly varying situations. In Being There and The Bloody Chamber the presence of genuine love, a lack of genuine love, and sexuality are all explored.…

Speak is written with the intent of drawing the reader in and initiating the gut feeling which we learned is created with the use of metafiction. Anderson writes the whole book in present tense and from Melinda’s point of view. The grammar she uses is casual and is written how a typical teenager would talk. The dialogue within Melinda’s head is sarcastic and vivid, starkly contrasting the introverted facade she erects to protect herself. This insight into her mind evokes sympathy for Melinda and a connection to a character that doesn’t really exist.…

Mickey Mantle was one of the greatest baseball player in the history of the United States. He was born in October 20, 1931 in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. His Dad was Elven Mantle. "He taught Mickey Mantle how to switch hit and play outfield". His mom was Lovell Mantle. He grew up in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. At the age of four, him and his family moved to another town in Oklahoma. He was a very good athlete; he played basketball, football before he started playing baseball. In fact his football playing almost ends his career as a player. "Mantle's leg soon became infected with osteomyelitis a crippling disease that would have been incurable just a few years earlier. A midnight ride to Tulsa enabled Mantle to be treated with newly available penicillin, saving his leg from amputation." Indeed this disease was the reason why he couldn't join to the military. Richard Rodriguez

Rodriguez faces a few tensions in his personal experience such as being a "scholarship boy" as oppose to a well rounded student and and his life at home compared to a more friendly home environment. Rodriguez says that "I was a very good student, I was a also a very bad student. I was a scholarship boy, a certain kind of scholarship boy. Always successful, I was always unconfident. Exhilarated by my progress. Sad. I became the prized student - anxious and eager to learn. Too eager, too anxious - an imitative and unoriginal pupil." ( Rodrigues #283 ) Rodriguez describes himself here as imitating his teachers too much and being a perfect student instead of thinking for himself and taking in the knowledge he is given by his teachers and analyzing it and putting it to use. He is unoriginal and and uninteresting compared to a student who can use their knowledge in their own way and gets more involved. The other tension Rodriguez faces his the tension he has with his family, mostly his mother and father. At home his mother and father both support and encourage what he is doing very much but they didn't like the fact that he would always be in his room and the fact that the only thing he was involved with was school. "He permits himself embarrassment at their lack of education." (Rodriguez #286) This quote shows that Rodriguez's amount of knowledge of the english language and other subjects he had compared to his parents and therefore he was somewhat embarrassed by them and it created a tough home environment to live in because he didn't communicate much with his parents. This contrasts the home environment where their is a strong relationship between the family and their is communication.…
