Maquilapolis Video Analysis

Video Response: Maquilapolis Maquilapolis seems to me that it is doing more harm than good. I thought well it’s creating jobs for people so they can live happily, but it’s just big name companies exploiting non skilled workers. It really surprises me that the United States and Mexico let things get the way they were in the video. I agree with the women that are standing up to the companies they should fight to get better treatment and they should get paid for work they already did. These women, which make up 80% of the work force, are being deprived of their rights as humans and workers. According to the women they were constantly being harassed, pressured and being exposed to chemicals

Lastly, you can accomplish a great amount if you work as a team. The film Powaqqatsi has a scene that shows groups of people dancing in costumes, performing for people. In this scene, the people are happy, they all have smiles on their faces and are enjoying the company of the people around them as they dance and create music together. The idea of working together in Powaqqatsi is also portrayed in the episode “Flight” of Grey’s Anatomy. The plane, transporting six of the Seattle Grace doctors, just crashed to the ground and everyone is injured and some even facing death. Meredith Grey is on a mission to find her husband, Derek Shepherd, after the plane crashes. After looking and looking, Christina Yang, Meredith’s best friend, and Meredith…

After a short and brief anchor introduction WGN’s, Erik Runge, tells his story on the upcoming bad allergy season through a donut live shot. In his introduction live shot, Runge stumbles a bit, but then quickly recovers from it by restating the word and pretending like it never happened. Runge’s b-roll video that was shot in the same perimeter just through different angles around the same lake area in Lincoln Park was lacking and did not compliment the story well at all. Some close up b-roll on growing plants was more effective than the other videos because it represented pollen, a main cause of allergies. Runge also only followed around one allergy victim who did not have many powerful things to say beyond the obvious negative comments on…

Many terms come to mind when thinking about the independent (“indie”) film industry. Low-budget, inexperienced actors, non-commercialized, and shallow plotline. However, there are several major stylistic aspects of independently produced films that define the genre in comparison to films that are produced by large production companies. When producing an independent film, the director is not inhibited by the limitations the larger companies have. Without these limitations, the directors can usually get away with more grotesque images. This means that they can break some of the normal rules of filming in order to amplify certain features shown. This aspect is one of the pillars that plays a large part of what independent films result in;…

The film is very racy and at times incredibly inappropriate, but at the core of it it shows a harsh reality, a reality that most people do not comprehend. Most people in today’s society takes for granted the fact that most illegal immigrants do the hard labor in our country and without them the country would eventually fall apart. The movie would impact the field of sociology by forcing individuals into reality and really including immigrants in various things like surveys and studies. It would overall improve the perception of America, by including more of the other Americans that we don’t really consider to be Americans. Sociology could use an example like this in the field, because one the simple fact that. The only issue is that I don’t think it will impact the future generations of sociologists, for the simple fact that overall it is not a very good movie and the reviews show that so it will not peak the individuals’ attention. This is relevant information, because of its prevalence in our society. Racism, not only to Hispanics, exists everywhere in the world and this movie not only expresses the idea that it does exist, but it also makes light out of it and teaches us that we shouldn’t take everything to seriously. This will in turn will impact the opinions of people who are studying sociology and the related…

The documentary “Rape in Fields” was very heartbreaking. This documentary is about women who are abused and sexually harassed by their employers. Many women who are immigrant workers in farm fields and plants have gone through horrible ordeals. It’s sad to see that these women once didn’t have a voice because they were terrified of getting deported or fired. They kept quiet so they could continue working. They have suffered for so many years and have been through many awful days. Many Women who worked in the fields described the field as "the field of panties" and "the green motel." One could have never imagined what was happening in these fields if these women had never spoken. One of the women, Maricruz Ladino, explains that even though she hates remembering the past she is glad that women have finally decided to speak out.…

The first five weeks of the course Latin America Through Another Lens has introduced me to another perspective on Latin America and immigration to the United States. We have watched film, read articles and completed research to better understand many Latin American countries and the people who call them home. Puerto Rico, Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, and San Salvador have all been considered in film and I found the movie When the Mountains Tremble to be especially moving. The course introduced me to immigration from Latin America to the United States and we took a closer look at five current myths that are often associated with Latin American immigration. I was very curious about the idea that immigrants are a drain on society’s resources.…

I felt the A21 organization had a good concept at hand but poorly executed the entirety of the situation. A21’s mission is the raise general consciousness of human trafficking and help its victims but it lacks a crucial key to this: successful awareness campaigns. After doing some research, it seems that the organization did a poor job in allowing the walk to have an online presence. Few media outlets reported on the walk, and even if they did most had little evidence or facts to carry their articles. The only article I could find by a reputable news source is listed below, and contains only 11 sentences. This astounding lack of representation within the news displays how walks like A21’s does little to benefit the cause they are trying to support. Consequently, one of A21’s many challenges is the ability to raise retention of human trafficking within the world's…
