Palo Alto Movie Analysis
Palo Alto, a drama directed by Gia Coppola, is based in a homonymous book written by James Franco. The Story is focused in the life of the teenage students from the Palo Alto high school, April, the shy teenager who struggles to decide what she wants, Teddy, the boy who’s trying to stay in line, Fred, a reckless kid always looking for trouble and Emily the girl who tries to get boys attention by offering sex favors.
The movie portrays how the lack of parents guidance can make things difficult when you’re too young to make your own choices. In a very delicate scene April cries in a bathroom because she is afraid of the choices she has to make in order to get into an university. The drama brings the reality of the pressure such young people
have to deal with and how they feel completely alone. The choise of casting James Franco to play a soccer teacher who has an affair with April is something to be questioned taking on count the scandals involving him and underage girls but the movie is still a great one and it’s worth watching.
