In the caption of the photo it states that it is a photo of a visually impaired person from Mexico and that it is part of a series of photographs. This photo is in black and white and has many stark angles that create contrast between the person, the floor and the walls. The room that it was taken in is dimly lit and seems very barren because of its lake of any furniture or objects. It appears as if the person in the image as just gone down a flight of stairs and is about to round a corner. The viewers do not know what is behind the corner and neither down the person in the image because of their visual impairment. The person in the image is reaching one of their hands out as if to feel what is in front of them, or what is behind the corner. The emotions that the picture seems to radiate is that of mystery and fear as the audience does not know what lies behind the corner for the visually impaired person and they do not know what kind of future that they may face. …show more content…

If you were put in charge of a movie production about a person with blindness, what type of perceptions would you want to make sure are portrayed in your movie? What myths could you debunk? What stereotypes would you want to make sure to avoid? The importance of using their other senses to “see” what the world looks like. Those of us who can see are not aware of the importance of smell, and touch. We see with our eyes, while blind people see with their hands, ears, nose, etc. Blind people are not always unable to see everything. They can feel when the lights go lower, or the sun shines…

This photograph has two main purposes: to commemorate a loved man who was murdered and to point out the injustice of his murder. There is a painting of this man with clouds behind him signifying he was a great man who is now in a better place, however, the man is covered in red and there is a large amount of red underneath him on the curb representing the bloodshed of his unfair death. Right in the center of this photograph written very largely across the wall of the building is the phrase, "When you take someone's life, you forfeit your own." There are also flowers that people have placed in the surrounding area, somewhat like a grave site. These things represent the people's opinion about this man and the killing.…

In my own opinion, the thing that can overcome factors that have a negative impact on individuals with sensory loss is to first recognize what is the problem and try to acknowledge or seek help. Like for example if an individual suffers from blindness, the person should open himself for treatment, that he/she should seek help to correct the problem. Doing this will not only refrain him from prejudice but this individual will be able to make the necessary arrangement to restore his/her eyesight or even have other means to correct it. In the event that the condition is not cured then at least client will again be presented with different option so he/she can still live life as normal. If a…

Societal attitudes and beliefs can impact individuals with sensory loss in quite a negative way because people in society can be very judgmental towards people with disabilities, and put them in a group of people with below average intelligence and assume they can’t do or think the same way as other people without disabilities can. People in society can also be very prejudice and ignorant and think they are better than people with sensory loss, also thinking it gives them the right to make fun at them and making life difficult in the process. Although not all people think the same way there are many other people in society that are very open towards individuals with disabilities and sensory loss and can be very helpful and kind, this can have a positive impact on people’s lives.…

If I was blind, I know I would miss the joy of seeing the words while reading, the beautiful sunsets, my husband’s smile, and the constellations when camping. If I was without my hearing, I would miss out on music, which touches my heart and gives me bliss. I would miss the sense of smell the least, only because it is sensitive right now and can trigger a migraine; sadly, it would cause my taste to be affected. Many cultures see the loss of senses as handicaps that lessen a person. If I was without all external stimulation, it would be a very closed off world for me, especially if I lost my senses as an adult, but I don’t think it would make me less of a person.…

Being blind or partially sighted means losing the ability to see facial expressions and gestures making it difficult for the person to understand what is being communicated. Not being able to read information can put the individual at risk, for instance the information on medication packets, if this can’t be seen clearly or not at all it could lead to the individual under dosing, overdosing or taking the wrong medication which could lead to other health problems. Everyday tasks other people take for granted can become increasingly difficult for a person, the reading of labels on food packets where oven temperatures and times are written, the setting of the oven or microwave are examples of how hard things can become, not being able to read letters or bank statements and having to get others to do this can have an effect on maintaining confidentiality. Sighted people can go straight to a wardrobe or draw and grab the clothes they want to wear that day but being blind or partially sighted can make it really difficult and you may have to become reliant on somebody else to do this for you. Mobility can also be affected especially in unfamiliar surroundings the individual may become disoriented and be at risk by not seeing objects, people or hazards.…

The self-esteem of an individual who is having difficulties in hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling and so on can be affected because they do not have all the senses that they require. This would affect them because if they do not have a full sense of vision, they cannot have the opportunity to see things that other people get to see because of getting older. That would massively have an impact in their life because they are losing vision because of their age. The self-confidence would decrease…
