Day grew up in a poor sector and lived in the slums, where people work long labor-filled days in harsh factories and mines. After Day took the Trial, he supposedly failed and was taken away from his family. The citizens of the Republic do not know the fate of those that score poorly on their Trial. They think they are taken to work in fields, when in actuality, they are tested on. When Day was tested on, he received an eye imperfection as well as an impaired knee given to him by the cruel people who were performing the tests. Some people who assumed Day to be dead, threw him into a pile with other dead bodies. Following this, Day woke up and left the place and began living on the streets, stealing from the Republic, and never revealing his identity to anyone (including his own family). Day's parents believe him to be dead, but Day continues to steal supplies and leaves it for his siblings to find so the family has their …show more content…

In the book Legend by Marie Lu, June Iparis and her brother Metias were born into a rich republican family. June, only 15, knows nothing of the horrors that the government tries to hide from its citizens. When June turned 10, she took her trail and scored a 1500. A perfect score, something that was unheard of. She quickly became recruited for the Republic of America's military and they sent her to track the most wanted criminal-Day. Day, was believed to have killed her brother, Metias. So, June starts her mission seeking revenge. In this story, June symbolizes truth and justice for the both, the wealthy and the poor citizens in the Republic of America.…

June is introduced at the beginning of the novel by telling the story of her death. Although June is dead through the entire novel her memory lives on as her family and friends recall memories they shared with June and even some of their own memories throughout the novel. “June will figure throughout the novel as a touchstone for the other characters” (Sweet Wong 57) June’s death affected all of the characters in the novel. June is “…the erratic and once vivacious beauty of the family…” as described by Sweet Wong. (38) June left behind her husband Gordie and her son King, along with her lover Gerry whom she also had a son with named Lipsha. Every character in the book is impacted by June’s death. June is said to be “the catalyst for the narrations that follow, stories that trace the intricate and often antagonistic relationships in the two families from which she came” (Sweet Wong 38).…

Martin luther’s “I have a dream”, Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 , and Azar Nafisi’s “From reading lolita in tehran” all demonstrate the silent struggle and demand for freedom.…
