There is no solid reason for marijuana to be illegal. The risks and dangers of taking it are about the same as the risks of drinking alcohol of smoking tobacco, both which are legal for adults. Furthermore, making it illegal is ineffective at stopping minors from taking the drug, and makes the drug more dangerous because it cannot be regulated. Legal marijuana would be less dangerous because it would have to conform to safety standards, and have warnings to keep people informed, like cigarettes do. If society can change their views on alcohol, they can change their views on marijuana.…

This not only uses less land but takes a shorter growing time period, producing paper at one-quarter of the cost of wood pulp and creating less pollution. The legalization of marijuana would not only benefit the environment but the government and citizens as well. Most estimates say that the cannabis business in British Columbia alone is worth 24 billion dollars per year in street value, this is more than the forestry exports to the United States from British Columbia and is about two times the agricultural exports for the entire country. Think about how much more money the Canadian government would be making. Canada has roughly 600,000 citizens who have been indicted for using marijuana for personal use, and around 30,000 arrests are made each year. This number translates into roughly 500 million dollars for annual enforcement of drugs laws and 500 million dollars for legal fees. If you think that is a lot of money add 50,000 dollars a year to this, it adds up to roughly 1.5 billion dollars a year taken from the…

I believe that the time has come to end the prohibition of marijuana in the United States of America. If marijuana were a legal substance and taxed like alcohol and tobacco, billions of dollars in revenue would be generated that could be put towards paying down our national debt. Further stimulation of our economy would result from the thousands of jobs that would be created in order to grow, manufacture, process, market and distribute the product. Overcrowding in our prisons would be reduced, creating much-needed room for violent and aggressive criminals. Finally, there is evidence that the legalization of marijuana will yield certain health and environmental benefits to American society.…
