Viewpoint One: Local recreational fishing
Many local fishermen brought the points that they would not be able to fish in the proposed marine reserve areas, marine reserves severely limit recreational fishing in safe /sheltered situations relatively close to shore, and it would result in over fishing in other areas causing yet another problem with creating a marine reserve.
The bulk of fishing objections were based on not being able to fish within the marine reserve area. No matter where you put a marine reserve you are going to get local fishers that disagree. This is due to “NIMBY” standing for “Not In My Back Yard” local fishermen wouldn’t be upset about a marine reserve if it was somewhere else but the fact that it is close to them and effecting their life style, now they don’t agree with it.
