In A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Maley “sees” Scrooge clearly or for what he is. Marley tells Ebenezer Scrooge that three spirits will come and help him. Marley says that the spirits will help him turn around (page 752-753 Horovitz). Marley is doing this to help Scrooge not have Marley’s fate which is not resting, carrying heavy chains in the afterlife. Marley doesn’t necessarily like Scrooge-like he is now. Marley lingers around scrooge most of the time since he died. He gives scrooge the “clue” that he shouldn’t always stay in the business(pages 754-755 Horovitz).
