Marshall McLuhan

The media has changed the lives of humans since day one. The affect it has made on our lives has changed the life style of humans by forming new cultures. One famous philosopher shows his main concerns with the effect of media and technology and how it influences humans. Marshall McLuhan has introduced different theories to present his beliefs and philosophies on the social media and other technologies. Marshall McLuhan was born in Alberta Canada, in the year of 1911. McLuhan attended the University of Manitoba to receive his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in English. A University Gold Medal in Arts and Sciences was also rewarded to him. McLuhan continued his education at Cambridge University to receive his Bachelor’s Degree and became a doctor of philosophy. Once he completed his education, he went on to teach at other universities. A selected few of the universities that McLuhan had taught in were the University of Wisconsin, St. Louis University, Assumption University, and University of St. Michael’s College (marshallmcluhan.com/biography/). McLuhan made an oath that he would never become a teacher. He did not care for his professors at Cambridge University. McLuhan continued to learn in malice to bother his professors. Although he swore to never become an academic, he became a professor of English. Marshall McLuhan suffered from a stroke in September of 1979. This affected McLuhan’s ability to speak. Many people find this ironic because McLuhan was a philosopher of communication. How could one study communication without the ability to interact with their studies? McLuhan observed others and had one phrase that he said repeatedly. “You know nothing of my work.” was often said to those who would disagree with McLuhan.
