Martin Luther King Jr. “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.”(brainyquotes.com) Human equality was not always a “thing” in the U.S there used to be slaves. After the Civil war, there was no slaves anymore after the union army won the war. this gave african americans a little bit more of freedom, but did not get equal rights. later in 1964 that all canged after Martin Luther King Came along. 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested at the bus because she refused to give up her seat to a white man. The idea for the largest bus boycott was sparked. King was already the head of a committee devoted to civil freedom, so he and the others in the committee decided to begin The Montgomery Bus Boycott. For 382 days, african americans walked to work, school and the grocery store to protest against bus segregation. After suffering major financial losses The city of Montgomery, Alabama lifted the bus segregation laws, but that was only the beginning.13 years later, He and a quarter million others all joined hand in hand and marched for equality They marched from the washington monument to the Lincoln Memorial, about 1 mile, to protest the Unequal civil rights. There he gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. That speech inspired all the U.S. to be equal and not have segregation. “Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.”( brainyquotes.com)Martin Luther king Jr. taught us that the color of your skin doesn't matter when It come stho human equality. He was the head of the southern Christian Leadership Conference so he was a man that many people looked up to. Dr. King was a baptist minister Just like his father. He also was one of the largest civil rights activist that inspired peace and equality amongst the U.S. He lived in the south his whole life so he was used to the segregation laws yet, He never got angry or violent against them. Instead he used the power of words and boycotts to protest the laws. He married Coretta Scott in 1953 and had 4 children. They lived in Montgomery Alabama but while King was at a mass meeting, his house was bombed in 1956. His wife and daughter were inside the house but, thankfully, nobody was harmed. “The time is always right to do what is right.”(brainyquotes.com)Martin Luther King’s dream is still an inspiration today because the United states is not segregated anymore.
His dream is human equality and civil peace. It is our duty and responsibility to make sure that his dream gets fulfilled and never get discouraged by anyone. Dr. King said,”I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” King’s whole life was all for the civil rights movement yet he never saw his dream come true in his lifetime. In 1964, the civil rights acts were established. This means that no matter what race you were, you were created equally. King shook hands with president Lyndon Johnson for this act. In the same year, the voting acts of 1964 were created. now we have equal rights and the right to
vote. Martin Luther King Jr. was a non-violent protester, he told us that the color of your skin doesn't matter, and his dream still lives on today. If Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights activists didn't fight and protest against segregation, our country would be an awful place to live, grow and learn. All around the world ,countries and people are being inspired by Dr. King’s example.
