Martin Luther King Jr. had a very stressful, concerning life because many people did not respect him. Originally, his name was Michael Luther King Jr., but eventually he decided to change his name to Martin. He was one of the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement (Biography.com Editors, Last Updated January 5, 2017 original published Date n/a) and president of the MIA (Montgomery Improvement Association). Due to this situation, Martin’s life was constantly and frequently in danger. People bombed his house, and other MIA leaders were threatened, harassed, arrested, and jailed. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that changed the world, led the Civil Rights Movement including other organizations, and influenced perspectives about African Americans.
“I Have A Dream” speech had a huge influence on many people and still does, to this day. It was very inspiring to people who didn’t stand up for themselves because it helped them believe that they can actually do it. His speech stated, “I have a dream that my children will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” (Martin Luther King Jr). This statement says to people that the look of different people does not mean that they do not have a great personality.
