One of her theorems was the Chaos Theorem. She was one of the first people to work on this complex theorem. She worked with John Littlewood for many years to come. Cartwright worked with John Littlewood on the internal functions of zero. Mary Cartwright and John Littlewood also worked to find the solutions of the nonlinear radio amplifier in the 1940s. Nonlinear radio amplifiers were used by army men. This theorem contributed to the development of radios in World War II. Cartwright and Littlewood discovered many important discoveries about the nonlinear radio. They discovered if you raised the gain on the amplifier, the solutions will become irregular. She became a teacher for four years but decided to end her career of teaching because of her lack of space to experiment in her classroom which made her feel discouraged about her career. In 1928, she went back to Oxford and she studied doctoral studies and created a thesis. Her thesis was on the zero of internal functional which she collaborated with John Littlewood to make this discovery as well. In 1936, Mary Cartwright was awarded Research Fellowship in mathematics at Grinton college for her hard work. In the 1940s, she worked with John Littlewood on the Chaos Theorem. In 1947, she was elected a fellow member of the Royal Society. She was the first woman mathematician to be a fellow member. She was given the role of Mistress of Girton. After all her hard and diligent work she completed after college, she retired. She enjoyed her retirement and traveled.
