Mary Maloney
In my opening statement, I mentioned that the murder of Mary Maloney’s husband was premeditated. Based off of my evidence and witnesses, I have now proved that statement. First degree murder has four elements: intent, deliberation, willfulness, and of course, premeditation. My first piece of evidence, the letter left by Patrick’s fiancée, shows that Mary had a reason for feeling angry with her husband. After reading the letter, she had a fair amount of time to plot the murder. This is why she handed Patrick a drink as soon as he walked into their home. She wanted him to be easier to kill and completely defenseless.
Next, the audio tape of Mrs. Maloney rehearsing in the bathroom, shows her premeditation and deliberation. It portrays how she

Here, the defense presents us two contradicting arguments. The fact that Mary Maloney is under treatment of psychosis but she still had an anger outburst during the murder does not quite fit correctly with the statement that Mrs. Maloney was unaware of her actions. However, as I previously stated, if Mary’s emotions were this unstable, she would have had a similar outbreak sometime earlier with this big of a reaction. Maybe she would have had a reaction the night before, after finding the letter. What we have to ask each other is why? Why did she only take action that night? Ladies and gentleman, I have an answer for that question. After finding the letter, Mary planned out her tactic in killing her husband. After carrying out her plans, she blamed the deliberation on her …show more content…
The lamb DNA also proves that Mary forcefully feeding the cops the lamb meat had a reason behind it. She would not have gone through all of this trouble to feed the cops the murder weapon. She could have done plenty of other things with the weapon such as throwing it away or hiding it. However, because she clearly was thinking straight, she decided to get rid of it with a foolproof plan. Mary Maloney decided to cook it to get rid of her fingerprints and the weapon

How could Mary be the killer if she wasn’t at the crime scene? According to court documents, “It wasn’t six o’clock yet and the lights were still on in the grocery shop.”(Dahl). It would have been impossible for Mary to commit the crime because she was at the grocery shop when the crime took place. Mrs. Maloney went to the grocery store for some vegetables. The grocer states, “Mrs. Maloney came to the store to purchase vegetables and potatoes, bought two of the potatoes. She seemed happy and calm as she…

Judge and jury, I beg thee to charge Ms. Maloney with the murder of Patrick Maloney. Why would the perfectly stable Mary Maloney randomly decide to kill her husband? What would cause a perfectly sane woman to do such a heinous crime? As you are aware, Patrick Maloney was a well-respected member of the police force. To all who knew him he was a good man. He never had any enemies, and was very committed to his job. So how did this good man end up dead? Supposedly, Mr. Maloney was alleged of having an affair. However, Mr. Maloney is no longer around to testify to that fact. If Ms. Maloney had heard of this alleged affair, maybe that drove her to murder him. There is sufficient evidence showing that Ms. Maloney was the murderess. Number one, there…

First, Mary Maloney had killed her husband because he wanted to divorce. In anger Mary got a leg of lamb from the freezer and after hearing the news of wanting a divorce, Mary acted fast with disapproval ,and so” she swung the leg of lamb high and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head”(Dahl 3).This proves that Mary defeated her demons and had not wanted a divorce so she took matters into her own hands.Second after killing her husband should found a successful and creative way to hide the crime. after killing her husband she decided to cook the leg of lamb so she “... placed it in a pan and turned on the oven on high and shoved it inside.”(Dahl 4) What's my reason because Mary killed her husband and couldn't deal with the fact that she was going to jail for those acts, so she covered up the crime and successfully defeated her demon. In conclusion, Mary had successfully defeated her demons and was able to progress in…

On the other hand, Lamb to the Slaughter is a murder case instinctively executed by Mary Maloney, who is the wife to the deceased Patrick Maloney. A post mortem was conducted; some of the contents in the stomach was taken out for testing and checked for anything out of the ordinary to see what was really going on. It was then confirmed that Charles Cotton died of “Arsenic poisoning”. The “Arsenic Poisoning” which was VERY powerful and would kill you within a second, was what Mary had been using the whole time to kill everyone she had killed. She had got it from the place where she had worked at. Mary Ann Cotton was convicted of murdering Charles Cotton. She was also convicted of murdering 17 other people who died of “gastric fever”. All together it all added up. Mary Ann Cotton had killed 21 people during her lifetime. She had kept using the “Arsenic Poisoning” the kill everyone with which made them suffer with severe stomach pains then it would later be diagnosed as gastric fever. Everyone she had murdered was the people she was really close to. Everyone had noticed that she had not killed anyone that she “didn’t”…

Mary Maloney, obviously, could not have meant to kill Patrick for one simple reason: she was in love with him. Mary had always been supportive of her husband, she made everything the way he liked it. Mary understood that he was tired and underappreciated. Everyday Mary had the two table lamps and drinks made just how he would like it. Now, ask yourself this: Would a wife who would always everything perfect for her husband, whom she loved so much, really kill him, if she were…

In my opinion, Mary Maloney has lost control. She has killed her husband, Patrick Maloney without knowing the true facts which proves she has lost control. This is shown from the beginning when Patrick Maloney told Mary Maloney something that would change their lives forever. “Her first instinct was not to believe any of it, or reject it all. It occurred to her that perhaps he hadn’t even spoken that she herself had imagined the whole thing” (63). This quote shows how Mary Maloney pretended that nothing happened and went on with her day and started cooking. This proves that she was in denial. Later on in the story, Mary Maloney went to get supper made for her husband and herself. She stopped and looked at her…

Arthur Miller Shows Mary Warren in different limelight’s of power. At the beginning of the play there is an aspect of her having no power but as you go through the play there seems to be shifts in her power. Miller uses Mary to demonstrate young, single women’s power and how when you have so much power it can just slip right out of your hands in one brief moment. Miller shows that power can be taken away pretty easily and quite absentmindedly from Mary Warren’s character. He demonstrates this by making her young and single and setting the scene to a subservient, naïve girl. This makes her prepared to answer and obey others unquestioningly and serving as a means to an end.…

    A Leg of Lamb

A Leg of Lamb The story of Mary Maloney in Roald Dahl’s Lamb to the Slaughter shows that true love can go bad quick. With Mary just finding out that her husband is leaving her, there is no surprise that she would freak out especially after assuming her marriage the whole time was good. When most people are brought with such horrific news and have little to no time to digest such things, they tend to be irrational and do things beyond their moral beliefs and control. In this case Mary just so happened to kill her husband. Still, many can say it was a crime of passion, that she simply turned insane and acted out of character. Reasons for this would be the fact that Mary continued to make her husband dinner and that she also hoped that she would wake up as if from a terrible dream. No sane person either would feed close friends meat they just killed their husband with. Mary Maloney killed her husband but she was simply insane while doing it. The fact that Mary seems untouched by her husband being dead is out of character for Mrs. Maloney. She loved him so much yet he is laying on the floor and she has no emotion toward it. She decides to touch up her hair instead and prepare her words such as, “Hullo Sam..I want some potatoes please..and I think a can of peas” (P.2B) when dealing with the Grocery store employee. She is clearly acting out of character then what she really is. Yet she still insists on cooking her husband dinner even after his death. No sane person would do this. She acted as if “she was returning home to her husband and he was waiting for his supper” (P.3A). This clearly shows that she is not with it even after the the murder of her husband. Well before the murder of her husband Mrs. Maloney turned insane. After the news that her husband was leaving her she “went about her business and acted ash though she hadn’t been listening..she might find none of it had ever happened” (P. 2A). This shows that she is clearly…
