As a young boy he was looking at having a life full of dialysis and challenges that would keep him from having a healthy life. Massella stated that as a young boy he wouldn’t be able to play at recess because he would be too tired afterword’s, he was miserable (1). This is a challenge that children like Massella’s face every day with no cure to their medical problems. He stated that he had previously had 16 surgeries to try to help him to get better, but failing each time. However, after having the grown organ made by Anthony Atala implanted into him, Massella was able to have a normal life as a child and was able to do the things that he wanted to do. Massella admitted that he did not realize how amazing the grown organ was at the time and how life changing it would be for him in the long run. Captain of the wrestling team of his high school and later going on to study communications and mass media at the University of Connecticut, Luke Massella is grateful for the hard work and dedication of Atala’s with his development of growing organs which saved his life and has now allowed him to become a successful college student. Lindbergh in 1938, and seeing the success of a bladder developed by Anthony Atala, people can see how far along science has come with creating new ways to save people and not having to rely on others to give them an organ. With 90 percent of organs needed being solid organs, which are vital for every person, it is essential that the education for better understanding and the research of growing organs continue throughout the world. By allowing scientists to grow organs and to better understand how to create the most effective and efficient organs they can with the use of a persons cells, our world can strive with medical advances to help save those in need.
