1. What criticism of American society did the individual have?
Ralph Waldo Emerson based his work with nature. He stated the idea that we must find our place in nature. The American society thought that we were not essential to nature’s health.
2. What methods did the person use to improve American life?
Emmerson improved American life by people a sense of Independence and culture. People enjoyed speaking with him because he made them feel equal.
3. What success did the individual have in promoting reform?
Emmerson introduced people to the American transcendentalism which is a world of ideas and imagination. This allowed us to only think about the positive and take the stress out of our lives. The American people began to follow their own beliefs with this movement.
4. What detail(s) of the person’s work made him or her an interesting historical figure?
Emmerson was interesting because his ideas of life and philosophy. Especially in his essay “Nature”.
5. To what extent was the reformer obsessed with achieving an impractical goal through fanatical or impractical means?
His beliefs were considered very radical and he believed that since all things are connected to God then all things must be divine. People viewed his belief as that he was trying to remove the central God figure. He achieved his goals through means that were not impractical of fanatical. He wrote through novels, essays, and speeches.
6. What lasting impact did the person’s reforms have on American society?
Through his speeches he sparked reform about slavery and women rights which can now be seen in today's society. He showed Americans the flaws in society such as slavery and equal rights. He prompted the reform of these things which can now be seen today.
