One of the factors that a company has to pay attention to is new found technology. Let us take an example, Third generation (3G) network was first offered in Japan as a pre-released by NTT Docomo in May 2001 then followed by SK Telecom from South Korea in January 2002 (Dciexpo, 2007). A few years later, Maxis follow this trend and became the first 3G phone network provider in Malaysia in July 2005 (Press Release Maxis, 2005). As we can see here, the global economy trend forces Maxis to improve and provide a better service to its users since 3G network is so well received not only in Japan but in the USA and Europe as well. 3G enable its users to video call, internet on the move, checking emails and so on. This decision was a good one from Maxis because about a year later, Celcom, another Malaysian mobile service provider also launches its 3G network service in mid of July 2006(Telegeography, 2006). This shows that there are strong competition between…

In an oligopoly market, there are only a handful of players in the market and their behavior is tend to be interdependent (Melvin & Boyes, 2002). It means what Firm A decides to do will affect Firm B’s decision. For instance, the price that Coke sets for its product not only affects Coke’s sales but also the sales for Pepsi. In this paper, we will be talking about the cellular communication companies in Malaysia. Clearly this is an oligopoly market because there is only a few cellular companies in Malaysia namely Digi, Maxis, Celcom and U-mobile. Not only in Malaysia, it happens in most countries. In United States, four wireless providers (AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Sprint Nextel) control 89% of the cellular telephone service market. (US Wireless Data Market Q4 2008 and 2008 Update, 2008) Oligopolistic competition may sometimes bring collusion known as cartel. This happened to the cartel for world oil production under OPEC where the international price of oil is controlled. Oligopolies are price setters rather than price takers (Perloff, J, 2008).…

Thanks to Apple’s deep understanding of consumer behavior, the Apple brand engenders an intense loyalty in the hearts of core Apple customers. Ask loyal Apple fans why they buy the products and they might tell you simply that Apple’s products work better and do more or are simpler to use. But the truth is, Apple buyer behavior is a part of the buyer’s own self-expression and lifestyle—a part of who each person is. Apple users are characterized as independent thinkers, innovators, and ahead of the crowd. Apple’s obsession with understanding customers and deepening the user experience has led to products that are imaginative, irreverent, pleasing to the eye, and fun to use. The same goes for its stores, which are clean, simple, and oozing with style. Apple stores are not just places to shop, they are gathering places that encourage lingering. Apple’s tech support is second to none and the brand leads the industry in customer satisfaction. The consumer love affair with Apple is as good for the company as it is for its users.
