Story time goes a long way but, in the end, the Universal Storytelling Elements come together and make a theme. For this example, a fellow character named Chuck, who happened to be the youngest out of everyone, was a loveable character just for how he acted. When Thomas was first bought into the “box”, some of the other people believed he was perfect to be a runner, even himself thought he would be one. Gally had placed him into this den under the ground and made him wait until the next morning. All of the well known runners in the group had done this to even become a runner. In the middle of the night, Chuck came to see Thomas and tried to give him this carved out eagle. Thomas had questioned him why and Chuck looked at him with a sad looking faced and told him when he leaves this place to give it to his parents for him. Thomas has refused to take it because he said that he would help him get out of this so Chuck is able to give the eagle to his parents. At the end of the movie, Chuck had risked his life for Thomas. Chuck had been shot by Gally and as he was dying, he gave Thomas the eagle. Thomas could not believe what had happened. “I promised him! I promised I’d save him, take him home! I promised him!” (The Maze Runner). Thomas stated this when Chuck had passed away. This quote is important because it is showing guilt when unable to save a fellow friend; however, Thomas was still a hero for saving the rest of them and for that, he soon became a stronger
