My highest career aspiration is to start a company that brings unprecedented integration in Fashion society at global context by dissolving the geographical boundaries in terms of styles & trends. I want to create a worldwide set up which finds the talent, in the field of designing, acting, writing, modelling, painting, public speaking etc., from metro cities to backwoods globally, nurture their art by professional training and expose them to the highest of the industry’s platforms.
I want to bring all the top faces of the industry under one roof to help those who have talent but not resources. I want to engage Franca Sozzani in the discussion about revolutionizing the fashion industry by bringing talents from underdeveloped areas to high fashion streets. I want to see Diane Von Furstenburg, Tory Burch, Miuccia Prada inspiring their lines from the designs of the designers/artists found by my company. I want to convince Pat Mc Grath to give lessens on fashion makeup to underpriviledged yet talented people who aspire to be professionally trained. I want that day to come when Cathy Horyn gives thumbs up to my work in NY times. THE day when Anne Wintour dedicate a whole section of her magazine to my company and its work.
To achieve these goals, I have focused my professional pursuits to various roles in fashion industry that has prepared me to create a market disrupting innovative company fit to impact the overall industry economically and socially. My experience in public speaking has placed me in close contact with the top executives of various companies, political leaders, successful entrepreneurs and government officials. The opportunity to interact with such innovative individuals has been an inspiration, provided me a first-hand account of what qualities today’s leaders possess and enhanced my confidence and passion to the highest levels. My experience as corporate trainer have not only polished my business skills by working closely to all departments of the

I can remember all the way back to when I was a young child in elementary. I didn’t think much about the kids around me or how they lived and I can honestly say that very few kids stick out from those years maybe because it seemed to me at the time that we were all pretty much the same except for our physical appearances. What I can remember about the kids in junior high school was the need to fit in and be liked at all costs. Making fashion statements were much more important than answering the question about the meaning of life. High school though became a stepping stone into the complex and dynamic reality of the world around me that I had never investigated nor even identified. Beginning with my freshman year I encountered many more students than I ever thought I would. I started to notice quite quickly that the school population was extremely diverse and segmented. Groups were everywhere; jocks, nerds, gothic kids, trouble makers, and of course the ever present popular kids. This was the first time I could see with my own eyes the fact that we were actually quite different from each other. Kids that I had befriended in junior high slowing began to change and pull away from me for reasons that were not understandable to me at the time. In actuality, not only were they going through changes but I was going through them as well. My taste in clothes, music, sports, and my views on certain topics began to expand and diversify. Yet I started to realize that in doing so meant leaving my old friends behind and meeting new ones. My family had always been a cornerstone in my life who established my belief system as far as religion and values and therefore the perspective on the young life I had led up until that point. That upbringing enabled me to be able to compare and contrast the beliefs and ideas of others with my own and so the journey into the world of high school led me to come face to face with that very opportunity. One example which stands out in my mind…

I sat down to interview my high school basketball coach over the break to see what it took and how long it took for him to get where he is today in the coaching world. It took him 5 years to get his bachelor degree in sports management from Oklahoma State University. Coach Thomlinson has been coaching for 8 years and teaching for 6, the first two year he started off coaching was an assistant coaching job at Oklahoma Christian University then moved to Luther High School for 4 years and finally moved to Bethel High School where he became my head coach. He is a basketball coach and teaches health wellness. A typical work day for him are the hours 730a.m to around 4p.m out of season and in season the hours consist of about 730a.m to around 10p.m, the in season works consists of practice, planning practice, teaching, game film, game film on opponents, strategizing, and of course coaching the actual games. Out of season work just consists of teaching, practice, and finding out on want we need to work on to get better. Out of season he has the whole evening off with the family and then most of the summer with the family other than that little bit of time that is taken up by summer basketball camps but when basketball season starts “my team becomes my family” Coach Thomlinson said. The dream job for me is of course Duke University he said jokingly, But in all seriousness the dream coaching job for me would just to have a great group of kids that are coachable and of course a winning record every ear wouldn’t hurt. The highest dollar check I could get now in high school basketball would just depend on what school I went to and what their budget is, but more than likely a coaching job in Texas for high school would pay more than a high school coaching job in Oklahoma. The pros of teaching and coaching are that you can make sure that your players are being more respectful in class, keeping up in their classes, and…

I am the perfect candidate for the Fashion Institute of technology because I am inquisitive; I am always craving more knowledge no matter what the topic - I am a leader, I enjoy coming up with fresh, new ideas and I am an intensely passionate person. Though, unlike many other FIT applicants, I haven’t always had a “passion for fashion”. Growing up, I wanted to be an Architectural engineer. It wasn’t until someone close to me gave me my first Michael Kors handbag my 8th grade year that I began to develop the passion I have now. Handling this bag was when realized my obsession with high-end fashion was only beginning. I was amazed at the production work put into making the merchandise. Of course the beauty of fashion is interesting, but what…

    Growing Up In Ethiopia

Growing up in Ethiopia, a third world country where opportunities come few and far between, medicine, law, and engineering are all at the forefront of these limited opportunities and overly frequented options for college students. At an early age, I uncovered my love for helping others, but to my parents’ surprise my passion was for helping my girlfriends put outfits together or helping them shop for clothes, not helping an ill person regain their health in a white coat. As I began to mature, so did my taste and understanding of the fashion industry. After relocating to America, I learned that the industry is much more than raveling in the season’s latest designs or playing dress up. The industry requires a keen understanding of the various aspects of business. From an in depth knowledge of marketing necessary to efficiently publish magazines to the attention to detail and micro management required to produce the runways shows, or the macro management experience that’s a must in order to oversee a styling company. I was astonished and even more so motivated by the business empires that are household names across the world, including the numerous fashion companies, and intrigued like never before by what takes place behind the scenes to build them from the ground up. I soon fell into the expansive world of business head first when I took an introduction class to business as a freshman in high school, in addition to a quantitative literature class to provide me with the bases for understanding the math involved, as well a college level Introduction to Business course during my senior year at a nearby community college.…

I worked hard in school to get the grades I needed to attend LIM college to enroll in their Visual Merchandising Bachelors Program with a concentration in Styling. I was then employed at Old Navy and Journeys where I worked as a sales associate to gain a better understanding of the many jobs in the fashion industry. To gain even more experience I created my high school's very first fashion club where we put on a now annual fashion show. I helped host the show and style the models while also handling behind the scenes aspects. I, later on, shadowed local designer, Ms. Evy Woods helping her prepare her fashion show at the Black Congressional Caucus. This event is where I really got to see what a real fashion show entails, which made me fall in love with fashion all over again! As of today I am currently applying for internships and volunteering for New York City fashion week to get even more experience. Eventually, I hope to attend LIM's guest speaking events to hear from people in the industry who have gone through the same process as me. I have done quite a few things to help me gain experience in the industry but I have so much more to…

Topic 1 India is the second most populated country of this world. It has its own pros and cons. You need to express your own views over ‘Family Planning in India’. Essay 1 Planning is a prerequisite for solving any problem. Our country, India, is facing an acute problem of increasing population. This problem has its root in the family -level and the solution of this problem lies in family-planning. So, family planning should be mandatory in India. According to the ‘Malthusian Theory’, population increases in geometrical progression, i.e., at the rate of 1,2,4,8,16,32,… but the food production increases at the rate of arithmetical progression, i.e., at the rate of 1,2,3,4,5... Thus, the problem of population is not only about more and more people living in this country but this problem could be much more trivial like it could create food shortage, mal nutrition, poverty, high death rate, unemployment and much more. We need to look at every angle to find a solution to this problem. For instance, the Government should make it necessary for every couple not to have more than two children. It can announce medical schemes for assisting poor couples in family planning. However, mere planning on paper will not solve this dreaded problem. Government and the citizens of the country will have to execute the planning on the ground level. This is the only way of avoiding the crisis that we and our off -springs will face in future due to over population. If every couple understands the benefits of family planning, we can overcome this issue in no time. The Government is encouraging family planning by introducing new and innovative schemes and education the people about the pros of less number of children like less number of children means greater care for them, good education for them, sufficient food for them, and a much better future for the children as well as their parents. Government has also opened many family planning clinics that are giving free advice, consultation and…

People are influenced by celebrities every day. They watch their movies, listen to their latest songs, or read about their stunning red carpet gowns in magazines. But fashion has been the biggest inspiration to the modern-day consumer with celebrities designing fashion lines of their own. Everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Hilary Duff has created their own clothing or accessory line. Some celebrities have done exceptionally well when creating a fashion line; for example, Jessica Simpson's line is the first celebrity clothing line that has achieved a billion dollars in retail sales, this includes accessories, jeans, shoes, other clothing, and sportswear. Most celebrities can’t sew, draw or drape and never went to fashion school but that does not stop them from launching their own clothing lines.…
