Macbeth was written by Shakespeare in 1603-1607. It was also written in the time of the reign of James I. at that time people believed in witchcraft and the supernatural. People also liked their violence. The Macbeth play is also called the Scottish play because to call it Macbeth could cause misfortune or bad luck for the actors.
Macbeth falls from a hero for his country and king to someone who is a dark and evil person. Macbeth is a very ambitious person even from the start when he meets the three witches. Macbeth and Banquo meet the three witches in a cave and the witches speak about the good news in the future in a sort of rhyme to Macbeth. Banqou doesn’t believe the witches and wants to kill them but Macbeth falls for the storeys the witches are telling him and stops Banqou. He doesn’t listen to the wisdom of his best friend Banquo and believes what the witches say, that he will become thane of Cawdor. When Macbeth sees the Kings son Malcolm become prince of Cumberland, Beth says “Prince of Cumberland, stars hide you fires, let not light see my black and deep desires”. This shows that maybe Macbeth wasn’t such a hero or a good person after all because he changes his mind very quickly but also suggests he has dark desires to become the King of Scotland. Macbeth seems to have a moment when he speaks to himself about wrong doings to the prince Malcolm and to the king. Macbeth returns to his house to see his wife that he has good news for, he tells her all about meeting the three witches and what they said about becoming thane of Cawdor and it becoming true. And about him had dark thoughts of getting rid of Prince Malcolm to becoming the king. Macbeth suddenly realised what he was thinking about doing was wrong and he wants no more to do with it.
