The McDonalds that we know today, is not the McDonalds from 64 years ago. It has made significant advances throughout the years. It first began as a family owned Bar-B-Q restaurant, and now it has become a multi-million dollar company with franchises all over the world. A multi mixer salesman is the person who changed the future for McDonalds. He intended to sell Dick and Mac McDonald a mixer, but instead he invested into their business, and made McDonalds a franchise. Even though Dick and Mack, the owners of McDonalds Bar-B-Q, created their restaurant in 1948, Bay Kroc, the multi mixer salesman, made McDonalds a franchise in 1955, in Des Planes, Illinois, which is where most people believe to be the birthplace of McDonalds. Stanley Meston, designed McDonalds as a red and white tiled building with golden arches. This design was used for the opening of Kroc’s restaurant in Illinois.
During the 1960s, McDonalds' advances include the establishment of Hamburger University, indoor seating, public stocks offered, the first television commercial (which included the birth of Ronald), the big mac, more emphasis on the arch, and the international leap. Students at Hamburger University which is located in Oak Brook, Illinois, can earn a bachelor’s degree in hamburgerology. McDonald’s public stocks could be purchased at $22.50 a share. Changes were made in the architecture; there was less emphasis on the red and white tile building and more emphasis on the golden arch. By far, the biggest advancement of this decade was that there were now locations in Canada and Puerto Rico.

In 1973, the first McDonalds basketball team was chosen. The Roster included the NBA legend, Ervin “Magic” Johnson. In 1979, the happy meal made its appearance featuring a circus wagon theme.
