media usage
Media Usage Essay Media is incorporated in our everyday lives and almost in everything you do. Through my Media Usage Journal I've learned that I spent countless hours using media. From communication purposes to school and even entertainment purposes I use media. However actually keeping a log showed me that I spent more than half of my day using media. Even through writing this paper I'm using the media. even though I'm offline. I also learned that most of my media use is done through my I-phone, not sure if it's good or bad thing but for the most part my I-phone keeps me on top of things and helps me become a more productive individual. Due to my busy schedule during the weekdays with school, commuting and home life, I do not have as much free time to sit and watch television or read the newspaper but I think it is really important to keep up with the mediums and be informed of what is going on in the world. The media can be very beneficial and have a really good impact in our lives if used for such purposes. However it is when we live our lives within our media, rather than simply. Everyday we our introduced to a new media device and while they can be very beneficial the problem begins when we become dependent on them and we fail to realize that there is life outside of that device, happened to me. For that reason I try to limit my media usage as much possible as I can because as helpful as it can be, it can also get in the way of actually being productive. Reflecting on this log I do think I spend a lot of time using media however I guess now a days media is to us what water is to fish.

Technology has played a big role in electronic and digital media. Technological inventions keep companies competing in the same areas. “Digital and electronic media today is plentiful with the information highway (Internet) providing answers at our fingertips, along with cell phones that are equipped with cameras and Internet connection”(Thomas 2010). Today media has a major impact on society. Since technology is ever changing, society is forced to keep up with the technological changes and advances. From satellite television to wireless electronics, society wants all the new technological inventions ever made. Society has grown dependent on electronic products, spending less time with people and more time on the internet. Before television was invented kids were forced to play outside with the neighborhood children. Before the internet or World Wide Web, libraries were used religiously allowing everyone to research on their own and take time to read books. Digital cameras allow us to capture moments, save print and share. With inventions like memory cards, we are able to save any and everything. Today computers are used in schools for easier access to topics discussed in class. Without chemical and electronic technological inventions society would be still looking for ways to invent and create.…

“Struggling with autism in a small town” is not a common fantasy type seen in cinema films, which makes What’s Eating Gilbert Grape unique. Arnie, a character who displays symptoms of autism, is important to the overall meaning of the film. Arnie’s disorder not only pulls his family closer together, but it also shows the audience how someone with this communication disorder is viewed in a small town. His character development, as well as his family’s, is an inspiration. They are able to turn something that is usually seen as weakness into strength. The film was able to capture stereotypes concerning autism, such as frustration and annoyance. Also, Arnie’s character presented some misleading information of the portrayal of autism. By choosing to have a character with autism in the film, the audience was able learn about the communication disorder in an entertaining fashion through the development of the characters. Also, the audience was able to see different ways of handling the disorder through the characters of Gilbert and Ellen. Gilbert is more concerning and Ellen is more self-indulged and cares more about the views of others. The disorder was necessary to the film in order to develop characters, portray stereotypes, and shape the views of the audience.…

All data was gathered by means of a Diary application on my phone. I spent an average of nine hours per day exposed to the media. My average day begins with a radio alarm clock playing ‘Spin FM’ and I also carry an iPod with some of my favourite tracks. I spend most of my weekday at college where there is little media exposure with the exception of the computer lab where I usually spend about an hour a day. I return home most evenings and watch TV as I study and read and I also browse the internet at night.…

After conducting a week long journal, I’ve realized that my media consumption consists of many different media mediums. In general I mostly intake media from, the internet, my mobile phone, and television. On the internet, I usually visit social networking sites such as facebook.com and twitter.com, or pop culture/fashion websites like, fashion.com, Tmz.com, and youtube.com, to get information and updates from my family and friends. On my mobile phone, I tend to get news and weather updates from yahoo.com and weather.com. I also get updates from Elle magazine and technology news from blackberrygeeks.com on my mobile phone. Television is where I intake media for entertainment reasons. I watch family shows like, “Jon and Kate Plus 8”and “Sister”.…
