Medical Billing Experience
I selected to do the internship for this course at Seattle Visiting Nurse Association in Edmonds as a Medical Biller. The Mission of the Seattle Visiting Nurse Association is to develop and maintain innovative programs that provide peace of mind, improve quality of life, and support independence for patient, family and community. The Medical Biller position consist of errorless CPT, ICD-10-CM coding and pricing with various insurance companies of the patient’s treated with inoculation of the influenza vaccine.
This internship was a great experience for me to actually get some real hands on training in a live work environment. I had a slight expectation on what was to come. I had no idea that it was just consistently plugging in codes and prices for treatment. I thought there would be some customer service skills involved and quality assurance of billing, but overall I’m glad I got a taste of what is to come. I have experience in medical billing in the past and it was more of a liaison position between patient itemized bills and insurance companies.
If I continue in this field I will have to screen the job position/description more stringently. On the other hand, I’m very pleased to have work with the Executive Director, Marty Dennis and Supervisor Jenny Dalton. The whole staff there is very friendly and the ability to work independently in a great work environment made me feel liked I belonged. I would definitely recommend Seattle Visiting Nurse Association to anyone who has to do an internship in the medical billing field. I’m so thankful to experience this opportunity in a field that matches my educational

PROCEDURE: The patient was placed in the supine position on the operating room table, where her right hand and forearm were prepped with Betadine and draped in a sterile fashion. We infiltrated the thenar crease area with 1% Xylocaine, and once adequate anesthesia had been achieved, we exsanguinated the hand and forearm with an Esmarch bandage. We then created a longitudinal incision just at the ulnar aspect of the thenar crease and carried the dissection down through the subcutaneous tissue. We identified the transverse carpal ligament and incised this both proximally and distally until we were certain that it was completely released. We identified the median nerve and found that it was free. We did spread the soft tissues surrounding it gently.…

In the medical billing process, there are significant and mandatory steps that healthcare workers need to do. Preregister patients are the first step, and this contains two major duties. The first duty is to schedule appointments because the patients need to have a time and date to see the physician, plus to update appointments.
