Medusa is a very popular creature of Greek Mythology. In two thousand and fifteen, there was a movie made about this interesting Greek mythology creature. All of the people who visited Parthenon were dazzled by the art and were grateful they were to the goddess of wisdom, Athena. Medusa was not as grateful for the magnificent art in Athena’s temple. She argued to her friends that she would make a better muse than Athena because she was more beautiful than her. Athena heard of Medusa’s rude remarks and told Medusa that life is not all about being beautiful. Medusa argued that her beauty was very important in life. She said her beauty moved the people around her and made their lives better, but then Athena silenced …show more content…

Although it is good to think highly of one’s self, it is not good to be boastful about looks and all of the blessings one may have. This thinking will only bring trouble most of the time. This myth teaches people that what is on the inside is more important than what is on the outside. Having a good attitude and personality is more important than having beauty. ‘Medusa’ can relate to the ‘Clown Punk’ because, although she was once accepted amongst people; beautiful and in love – she doubted her fiancé’s loyalty, slowly transforming her into a bitter and unsightly woman, thinking it would be ‘so better by far for me if you were stone’ in hopes that he would feel as isolated as she felt. Medusa’s wild thoughts slowly began to take action on her appearance, transforming her into a gorgon. Although Medusa and the clown punk are similar in many ways, Medusa chose to exclude herself from the rest of society, wanting to be unseen and living in the shadows of life, while the clown punk was turned away – wanting to be noticed but forever ignored.…

She explains throughout her poem, "Muse as Medusa," that her power resides in Medusa since Sarton's creativity is inspired by her. Sarton's gaze is focused on Medusa in her poetry, which Audre Lorde expands by depicting that the power grounded by Medusa created Sarton's ability to look deeply and put it into words. Theresa de Lauretis explains that the power of Medusa, as a feminist icon, is portrayed through images on screen and is normally eradicated to symbolize the capture of women's control. The power of Medusa is encompassed through the gaze she attains, ‘to be looked at,' which gives power to those who use Medusa's power in poetry, cinema, etc. The power of looking is the significance to individuality. It forces the self to remake the gaze to achieve…

Three epic battles are painted across the back side of her shield, which are also portrayed on the outside of the building with the previously describe sculptures and frizzes. Her face is painted with bright blue eyes and red lipstick. She has such a blank stare it gives off a stern but eerie feeling once walking into the room. Personally my favorite part of the exhibit because of how massive and intriguing the giant statue is. I love seeing metaphors within the sculpture such as Medusa’s head adorned across Athena’s shield, indication to the old Greek mythology story where Athena slayed Medusa. I feel as if this piece shows great significance to Greek beliefs that the gods protected them. The serpent beside Athena is said to represent the people of Athens and Athena’s shield protects the serpent, as she does them. This assumption only further emphasizes my previous notion that the original Parthenon was made for Athena in hopes she would protect the people of Athens. However that is only my assumption as no absolute reason has been established as to why it was built and its purpose.…

Strolling down the field of long columns engulfed in rows of wheat and barley occupied my day. The rays of the bright and scorching sun permeated the Greek sky. An unexpected cool stream of breeze rustles my brands of immaculate, blond hair. Being the goddess of agriculture, it is my duty to be at the helm of the cultivating and harvesting process that constitute my yearly routine.…

“The characters, stories, themes and lessons of Greek mythology have shaped art and literature for thousands of years. They appear in Renaissance paintings such as Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Raphael’s Triumph of Galatea and writings like Dante’s Inferno; Romantic poetry and libretti; and scores of more recent novels, plays and films.” I think that it is great that the ancient Greeks came up with these myths. When I first started reading and listening about the Greek myths, I thought they were totally absurd. However, I now think that some myths tell entertaining stories and teach great lessons. Through this paper I will tell you about one of the myths we share today in our culture, share what Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung had to say about mythic structures of the human psyche, and explain why myths such as these bring us together socially and culturally.
