Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the pyramid start to fall, and with it, my heart dropped. I could not believe after all this time and all the challenges we faced, a simple pyramid would be our downfall. My mind went in reverse and I reminisced about everything we had been through together to get to this point.
It was finally the year we all looked forward to ever since we were freshmen: Senior Year! My group of best friends had been close all throughout the four years at McDowell High School. We all were on the competitive cheerleading squad since freshman year, so by now we were pretty much family. As a cheerleader you knew how big of a deal it already was to be a senior on the competitive cheerleading squad. What made our senior year so special was that our sport that we loved doing was finally being announced a sport by everyone else! It was our year to finally show everyone what we were made of, and just how talented we really were. After a long practice one day after school, I came home to my mom watching the news. “Did you hear the news about competitive cheerleading?” She asked, excitedly. “No, what about it!?” I replied, eager to discover what she was so giddy about. “It’s good news Kylie! Since competitive cheerleading is now considered a sport you guys get to compete in PIAA States!” Hearing this news made me so excited I could hardly contain myself. Next thing you knew, I was jumping up and down calling all my friends asking if they heard the exciting news. Being able to compete in the first ever PIAA States for competitive cheerleading was an honor, but it also came with some challenges. We had a reputation to continue from past years of national titles. We really had to live up to our name because we would be on national television. After hearing this outstanding news it seemed liked nothing could ruin my mood until I remembered that seven of our teammates were out hurt. The next day
