Memoirs Of A Teenage Amnesiac Summary
'Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac'

I am reading an English book called 'Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac'. It is about a girl called Naomi 16 years old. It starts off when she is in hospital not knowing why she is there after she has hit her head from falling down some stairs at school. She doesn't remember anything that has happened to her since she was twelve years old such as her parents getting a divorce, who her friends are, or whether she has a boyfriend or not. The book covers a length of about a year roughly, although it doesn't really make it clear. It is quite an ordinary novel about a teenager struggling through her life which is now even harder to bear due to the fact that she doesn't remember anything about herself. The opening of the story starts off with her introducing her beginning (being

Her dad and her mum divorced which Naomi doesn’t remember, so her dad is getting married to a woman called Rosa Rivera and is very happy about it. Naomi doesn’t know what to think. Her best friend Will, always makes her CD’s with music that might help her to remember the past four years. Her boyfriend Ace is a jock and is really popular but the only thing she has in common with him is Tennis. So she breaks up with him and goes out with a boy called James, who also has a blurry past. She doesn’t know it at the time, but afterwards- when she gets her memory back- she realises that the only thing she had in common with him was that they both couldn’t remember their past, for different reasons. Will and James were the characters who were described in most detail. I found Will the most interesting and sympathetic because he was the type of character who is always an open book and kind etc. None of these characters changed that much throughout the story, except for Naomi, who eventually got her memory back and tried to carry on living

Before Naomi reads Aunt Emily’s letters, she is surrounded by “a silence that will not speak” (preface). Naomi always asks questions about her past while “expecting no response” (31). Naomi, filled with dullness, stops asking questions. She bottles her curiosity instead of looking for answers. Naomi, after finding the answers, starts to feel emotions other than dullness. For example, when Naomi realized that places like the “Pool” and “Sick Bay” were prisons, she felt disgusted that people could be “kept there like animals” (92). After Naomi reads of what happened to her mother, she is “not thinking of forgiveness”(288) towards the government like she thought. Naomi, after unleashing her emotions, suddenly sees that her mother “remains in the voicelessness”(289). Finding that her mother represents the silence, Naomi listens to hear her…

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

Confessions of an Erstwhile Child is an essay which analyses the concept of the nuclear family. At first the author explains the ideas of Thomas More's Utopia, but afterwards narrows his content by going into explaining his thoughts on children raised in dysfunctional families. He very cleverly shows the reader part family model's with current ones, allowing his audience to make the decision for themselves. His tone is a logical philosophical. The reader is told of his depressing childhood growing up in a dysfunctional family, and how it had a profound effect upon his life. The author uses his own personal experience and knowledge to express his opinions on his topic, but really doesn't use much inference to other cases or factual evidence to back up his argument. All and all, the author wrote an essay which would prove to be thought provoking and well organized.…

Throughout the book, the narrator often speaks with a numbed tone despite all the horrifying ordeals she has seen and experienced. Although her offhand comment to herself are presented in a slight bitter and humorous manner, she must learn to hide this from others in order to survive. It seems that the more she tries to cover up her true self, the more she forgets about how life used to be for her. She finds it odd that she used to dress as the Japanese tourist used to dress; yet it was only three years prior that she had the freedom to do so. She even admits to herself that she has been erased from the memory of her daughter, and that to her little girl she doesn’t even exist anymore. To protect herself in her new world, she is forced to hide beneath a submissive, obedient, and mindless mask, yet more and more each day, the mask becomes her real face.…

The last time I remember something as huge as starting in high school was having to move to Oregon from Alaska, but for better or for worse, here I am, attempting to make my mark on this big blue Earth. However, Highschool was never always just peaches, cream, rainbows and unicorns. If I’m to be one hundred percent honest here, I was legitimately terrified of it, whether it be the totally reasonable fear of being stuffed into a locker by a bully or getting lost in a labyrinth of corridors and passages of infinite classes and broom closets. But those fears never truly emerged up until the final days of freedom that remained from my graduation of 8th grade. As the days drew nearer, so did my fear reaching the brim of a breakdown. I was scared,…
