Memorial Service Reflection
It was really good seeing and talking with you at UMC in St. Charles. Veda mentioned you had conducted a memorial service last week. I am planning on conducting one for my mother. Do you have any guidance, you could email me, on how I should conduct the service including the "celebration of life" teaching part of the service? I realize I may need to adapt the information for my mom's life. Any information is appreciated and should make this easier for

Good morning Ms Kirkcaldie and students; I stand here before you to deliver an analysis of the poem ‘Beach Burial’ by Kenneth Slessor. One of the reasons on why I chose this poem was the fact that it was based on such significant event in history. While my understanding of Australian poetry is not on a high standard, I feel confident in saying that my opinion is more credible than that of a person who has so much as a reasonable understanding. Kenneth Slessor was an Australian poet and journalist, best known for his poems ‘Beach Burial’, a moving tribute to Australian troops who fought in World War II because of Australia’s allegiance with Great Britain.…

What is the first thing that goes though your mind when you hear the words Memorial Day? What does it mean to you? What symbolization does it hold in you? Ladies and gentlemen, sadly enough, the true meaning of Memorial Day has been seemingly lost by the majority of Americans today. Many confuse this day for Veterans Day or even Armed Forces Day. Although it is highly appropriate to honor all our veterans, living and dead, and to recognize their immeasurable contributions to our country, this is not the true meaning of Memorial Day. When I asked you what the day means to you…what is symbolized to you, what went through you mind? Did you simply think of it as another federal holiday? A 3-day weekend? The beginning of the 100 days of Summer…a BBQ? Or did you think of a mother…

Today I went to my Alcoholics Anonymous class, and needless to say, I did not know what to expect. I went to the Step program at Memphis Memorial, and the entire group was very accepting of having nursing students attend. The class began with one lady reading from their big book, and then the group recited the serenity prayer and the 12 steps. Once this was completed, the nursing students in attendance introduced ourselves and stated our reason for being there. The leader of the group asked to members if they had anything to discuss, and since nobody offered any discussion topics, he brought up the topic of “Are you doing everything you can to get the most out of the program?” This became a very emotional topic to the members.…

Last week was very important for me because every activity allowed me to reflect on grief and loss. It was a great week in preparation for the paper on loss and suffering. The didactic on grief with Amy was very touching, especially at recognizing how the life and suffering of Chris matters so much to me. Since the first day I visited him with Anne, there was a connection that has continued during his time at the hospital. I feel very sorry for his situation and at the same time, I feel angry because he has suffered so much at a short age. I understand that he might have done something wrong, but his parents kicked him out of home when he got sick, and that is inhumane and degrading. I hope to continue to visit Chris during his time at the…
