There are many people in this world that we consider great humanitarians. They may
become our own heroes, people we admire and respect, people who make us look at
world with a different eye. Among those people the woman I admire most from the
twentieth century is Mother Teresa. I regard her as one of the most caring and
kind-hearted persons the world has ever known.
If you take a look at a photograph of Mother Teresa, the most remarkable things you
can notice about her appearance are her wrinkled face and wavy white hair that
made her look older than she was. She was a medium-height and dark-skinned woman
but her dark eyes commanded attention radiating and energy and intelligence that shone without expressing nervousness or impatience. This short and round-shouldered elderly
woman chose to wear a plain sari with a blue border and a simple cross pinned the her
left shoulder in order to identify herself with the poor.
A regard as her personality, Mother Teresa was a generous and dedicated person
who devoted her entire life serving others and helping those in need, and never put her
own needs first. She was always ready to help with a smile without asking for anything
in return. In fact she did not get paid for anything except money from organizations or
donations. In addition to her selflessness, she was very courageous and never thought
about the risks she was taking when looking after people who were sick or dying.
Unlike many leaders today, Mother Teresa was a humble person who did not care if she
was admired for her work She only hoped that her efforts could serve as an example for
future generations to continue her work.
Apart from her pleasant personality, Mother Teresa was highly respected and admired
for her achievements. Most of her adult life was devoted to charity work. For example,
in 1952 she opened a centre in Calcuta for
