Mother Teresa Research Paper

Mother Teresa also known as Blessed Teresa of Calcutta was born on August 26th 1910 in Skopje Macedonia. Originally her birth name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu before she became a Catholic nun and missionary who devoted her life to caring for the sick. When she was only 8 years old her father died from an illness so, young Agnes became very close to her mother who had a strong belief in the Catholic church and taught her many things about compassion and charity. At age 12 Agnes went on a school trip to a church where she experienced her first calling from God. Six years later she went to Ireland to join the Sisters of Loreto where she became a nun and chose the name Sister Mary Teresa after Saint Therese of Liseux. A year later she traveled to
Calcutta India where she made her Final Profession Vows which allowed her to take on the title of Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa’s work began when she devoted her life to God by becoming a nun and teacher for the poor.
Mother Teresa showed great sacrifice by becoming a nun but, in addition to that she also left her life behind and flew to India. In Calcutta she was assigned to teach at Saint Mary’s High School which was run by the Loreto sisters. Saint Mary’s was a school that taught girls from the city’s poorest families. Mother Teresa dedicated herself to the girls education and always tried to relieve the girl’s pain and suffering through good education. As a result of her kindness and strong commitment to her students education she encouraged them to devote their lives to christ. In a prayer she wrote about the children she said, "Give me the strength to be ever the light of their lives, so that I may lead them at last to you," Later, in 1944 she became the school’s principal. Just like Jesus, Mother Teresa was a teacher for
others.

On September 10th 1946 Mother Teresa received a second calling from God which is now known as “a call within a call.” She was on her way to Himalayan from Calcutta when Christ spoke to her and said to work in the slums of Calcutta caring for the poor and sick instead of being a teacher.
Since she had taken a vow of obedience she could not leave her teaching job without approval which she didn’t get until a year and a half later. After getting permission to leave she did 6 months of medical training before going to the slums. Mother Teresa quickly began helping the poor by opening a school that was free for all to attend. She also convinced the city to donate a building to her cause which she turned into a home for the dying. As her cause became more public donations began to come in from all across India. Eventually she had enough money to create a nursing home, an orphanage, and a family clinic. After opening many charitable foundations across the world and inspiring many people Mother Teresa died September 5th 1997. As Jesus did, Mother Teresa gave her life to helping others. She devoted her life to him at a very young age and she never failed to follow in his teachings. In her lifetime she was honored with many prestigious awards such as the Nobel Peace Prize, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Golden honour of the nation, and many
more.
