A mental health counselor is a healthcare worker responsible for diagnosing and treating mental health disorders, problems, and illnesses. For instance, juvenile detention centers may require the services of counselors who have specialization in young adult therapy, whereas jails and prisons may employ these counselors for helping inmates work through problems that could have led to criminal activities.
