“The Machine is Us/ing Us” is a short video created by Michael Wesch. The video reveals how technology has advanced throughout the years and how it has affected our daily lives. As displayed in the video in the beginning, about how he writes in paper and shows how difficult it is to do the things that we can do digitally way more easier and faster. Later in the video, it shows how easy it is to change texts digitally and how hypertexts can be linked and shared with the entire world. This is something what the technology has helped people by widening their views and perspectives since people from all around the world can share their beliefs; this allows us to make better assumptions based on a variety of different opinions. As technology evolves,
more and more people start to get drawn by them because technological advancements has allowed people to save time and energy. Nowadays, people would rather find easy solution than taking the time to think and find solutions based on their own unique perspective. Just like how technological advancements bring a lot of advantages to the society, it also brings disadvantages. It has caused people to become lazier and stopping them from thinking too deep, since they make quick conclusions based on what is provided. For instance, you can look up for anything that you don’t know online and get solutions that others share it online. This takes away an individual’s uniqueness, creativity and identity, in which we technically turn into “machines”. Therefore, the video leaves us a message by saying that we should be aware of what we are turning into. And, instead of opposing to the evolution of technology with caution we should tackle anything that we face so that we can learn from it and continue to do new things that change the world.
