Micheal Water Conjoins
In the poem called “The mystery of the caves”, the author Micheal Water mysteriously illustrates the conjoined predicament of a lost boy to the domestic situation of the speaker with the use of several literary techniques. Such techniques include Imagery and Symbolism which the author utilizes in order to construct the story of the speaker who finds himself in great domestic comfort once he reads about a boy with a similar sense of confusion and loss.

As the poem tries to introduce the domestic issue, the speaker begins with a wide description of the “lost boy” using imagery that conjoins the boy’s constant search for “light” to the speakers domestic issues. To show example; the speaker’s parents seem to undergo a separation as stated “my

The title of the novel can be interpreted both on a literal and metaphorical level, which clearly establishes water as a motif and metaphor throughout the novel. ‘Drowning’ refers to the act of controlling the flow of water, and is done by a ‘Drowner’ who is a rural water engineer who is responsible for keeping the fields fertile. In the first section of the novel, ‘The Art of Floating Land’, readers are introduced to the character of ‘Alphabetical’ Dance and his occupation as a drowner, sustaining life through the act of drowning, and hence water is established as a life-giving force. On a more metaphorical level, the word “drowning” has connotations of death. Thus, the title juxtaposes the idea of water as a life-giving force, and introduces it as a life-taking force, constructing the duality of water which is a central theme throughout the novel.…

The structure of a novel enables it to embody, integrate and communicate its content by revealing its role in the creation and perception of it. A complex structure such as that of Robert Drewe’s work The Drowner, published in 1996, refers to the interrelation or arrangement of parts in a complex entity1. Drewe’s novel is a multi-faceted epic love story presenting a fable of European ambitions in an alien landscape, and a magnificently sustained metaphor of water as the life and death force2. The main concerns of the novel include concerns about love, life, death and human frailty. These concerns are explored through the complex structure of the novel. That is, through its symbolic title, prologues, and division into sections. The complexity of the novel is here, in its inter-twining of the different aspects of structure and they way in which they all ‘communicate’ to further the underlying concerns. These concerns are in turn explored by the attainment of an in-depth analysis and understanding of them.…

The lab in which we conducted last Tuesday was an analysis of a hydrate and what happens to it when it is heated. A hydrate is a crystalline compound which water molecules are chemically bound to it. In the lab, we were to analyze the difference in grams of the hydrate and the anhydrate. An anhydrate is the crystalline compound without the water molecules bound to it. During our lab, we were to heat up the crucible, the crucible with hydrate, and the crucible with an anhydrous and write down each weight, then repeat. Once we completed that task then we were to find the number of moles of water lost, the number of moles of anhydrous copper sulfate, percent comp of water in the hydrated copper sulfate, the mole ratio of moles of water and moles of anhydrous copper sulfate. Once this is all done, we found our percent error and compared it to the exact value.…

We see that the child’s innocent idealistic world is contrasted with his fear of ‘dream and darkness’. This poem gains its power through the child’s fear, which he attempts to overcome by trapping sunlight in a glass jar. The sun is used alongside biblical intertextuality as a pun to the ‘the resurrected [son]’ Jesus Christ, who throughout his life ‘blessed’ and ‘exorcised monsters’ and demons, together with ‘the [sons] disciples’. Biblical reference is further used throughout the poem to parallel the story of Jesus’ suffering and resurrection with the child‘s painful experience, causing maturation and his awakening the following day in a new consciousness.…

One of poets best and unique writer, whom live have changed as a teenage little girl, shortly after she marries Tomas Dudley, was on the voyage to a new world “America”. This quite amazing child was Anna Bradstreet, who later in her journey wrote “Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House” This poem, without doubt, as of many off her poems, is a pure example of Puritan writing. The first several lines of the poem indicate her truly believe in faith and values. As of one of those chilling moments of her live, Anna’s poem is entirely about her own feelings as she haplessly watches her house burning as thousands of kindles. Her writing makes readers as if they were experiencing same emotions and thoughts as she was at the time. Anna’s way of rhymes affects the way the entire poem flows as each rhyme has a unique feeling, emotion, and interpretation. Also, it abides the reader to process the two rhyming lines together before going on to the next few. As a very well educational woman, her choices of words are one of the consciousnesses with extremely strong connotations. Using such as words as ashes, ruin, fire, succor-less, and more, are an indication on extraordinary severity of the damage as her home is at the edge of being destroyed by the fire, with all the possessions and memories. On the other hand, she contracts those words with vocabularies such as treasure, love, and hope. These two unalike groups of descriptions through these words, describes material possessions, and the other on her faith and affiliation with God. This is obviously suggestion that Anna’s first priorities are God and salvation.…

    Sense Of Belonging

Being separated from his heritage, the writer experiences a guilty feeling about not understanding his parents’ culture. There also a sense that this issue will have to be resolved, even if doing so may involve some pain and chaos. The use of active voices in the poem shows that there are no unmotivated voice verbs at all and shows the need to do something about the problem of not belonging. The poem uses dreamscape and shows that the landscape of Skrzynecki’s dream is arid and barren, symbolic of his sense of cultural isolation and of not belonging. The landscape he creates is rich in sensory descriptions: ‘grasses and sand’; ‘mud’. Dreaming allows peter to reflect on where he has come from in his search for a sense of belonging. His dream is a metaphor for his reflections which focus on identity and how his family’s immigration has interfered with significant identity-forming communications: ‘Who are these shadows/That hang over you in a dream?’ “The eyes never close” shows that the moment is frozen and may be a sign that he is in a dream partly based on looking at such photos. A curious tone also carries on throughout the poem. This questioning is about his identity though his research of the past which is represented by the ancestors, creating a sense an image and search on his relationship to them. The reader can…
